Product Description

About the Author

Inside a small condo, Cliff Roberts is at one with his laptop, sitting in a short sleeved shirt he sits hunched over squinting at the small screen. A glass fill with soda once cold drink now warm and watered down from melting ice, sits off to the side of the desk. A pair of tri-focaled glasses, sit on his forehead. He is a writer at work. Outside, in the hall, a man waits, wondering what to do with his hands as he paces back and forth as though he were a caged animal. Time is running out. Unruly fingers, that love typing like they love paper cuts, type methodically. Cliff Roberts has a manuscript to finish. This one is called "Fatal Mistake." It will be his first to be published. Cliff's wife, Donna, stands by in anticipation as the final few paragraphs are finished. When he clicks the last key, he smiles with satisfaction and says, "It done." "About time, he's waiting in the hall." His wife Donna tells him as she nods towards the front door. Cliff stands and walks briskly to the door, thumb drive clutched in his big meaty hand. With one swift movement finds himself outside in the hall. A brief conversation occurs and the man who had been waiting, hurries off with the thumb drive and all is well. The book has been delivered to the publisher. Cliff Roberts has been a pauper, a pirate, a poet and a police commissioner. His home is a tribute to his long career. The walls of his office are adorned with awards for salesmanship and pictures of long forgotten meetings. Plaques with favored quotes are staggered among the dozens of shelves filled with books. These momentos attest to his ever changing vocations, of the challenges met and overcome. He now faces a new challenge as if he hasn't already faced enough. He has lived enough for two lives and can now write of the journey. Of the bruising days. Of the ruby-red lips and bourbon times. Of stark, broken down days. Of forgotten ladies who ride in limousines. The stories that have been in his head for as long as he can remember, begging to be written. He writes of his days in old Detroit of forgotten political campaigns. He writes of the people and places he's known, how they've changed him and how he's changed them. He contemplates the day life's new challenge will finally be met and everyone, near and far will know his name. Life's October can be an attitude or an age or a wistful reality. For Cliff Roberts, it is a time for new achievement. A time to write a new chapter in an ever changing life.

A good individual and stimulating writing style from Roberts.

The reader is subtly introduced into to book Fatal Mistake which leads to a world of complex minds and killers.

The author has used a clever tactic of making some things obvious to occasionally divert the reader's attention from the interesting story plot.

Many things that are created are deceptions and twists in the book.
Detectives, crimes, murders, shady characters, lust and a web of lies.

Wrong place, wrong time- deceit and betrayal.

The question is.... will the detectives solve the mystery?

A book certainly work checking out. Looking forward to more from Roberts.

HASH(0xaa29b9bc) out of 5 stars A MUST READ! 15 July 2013
By Angie Harris - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Fatal Mistake. Cliff Roberts. USA: Key Publishing, 2013. 266 pp.

There is no such thing as the perfect murder. Every murderer makes mistakes. It only takes one mistake to catch them and everyone makes at least one mistake.

Fatal Mistake by Cliff Roberts takes its readers into the complex minds of hardcore cold blooded killers and dares us to understand their motives and experience the passion which drives them to commit murder. While some of the key players, such as Tyler Stone, are motivated to kill by passion and a lust for personal justice, others like April Jennings are pulled into the world of murder by happenstance, simply by being in the wrong place at the worst possible time.

Cliff Roberts spins an intricate web of passion, lies, deceit, betrayal, and motives with all of the major players in Fatal Mistake, keeping our heads reeling as fast as he can weave it. How quickly we realize that a single mistake can lead to capture, imprisonment and even death. Then, compound this threat by the many mistakes committed by other shady characters who are involved within the intricate web. Detectives Beal and Williams have their work cut out for them as they attempt to investigate and untangle the massive web of lies and deception spun by players much higher on the chain than Stone and Jennings. Will the detectives be able to make sense of the chaos left behind in the wake of a less than perfect murder?

Fatal Mistake by Cliff Roberts is an alluring MUST READ for all! Do you dare to creep into the mind of a killer and see what compels a person to commit murder? If you do, then you must read Fatal Mistake!

HASH(0xa06cafc0) out of 5 stars Engaging Story! 17 Aug. 2013

Yet another great crime thriller by Cliff Roberts! I have recently discovered this author and read Nevwas Gold , and was impressed enough to want to see the main character repeated in another book. Fatal Mistake has impressed me further. Once again, he has captured me with his vivid description of characters and scenes, bringing this story to life before my eyes. The plot takes many unexpected twists and turns, and there were many scenes that intrigued me enough that I found myself reading it very quickly so I could and find out if my assumptions of how this plot would go, were right, BUT I forced myself to read slowly so I could absorb everything that led up to the main event. This is a great book and I will probably read it again, just to make sure that I didn't miss anything. Five Stars!

HASH(0xa069de70) out of 5 stars The bait ususally gets eaten 12 Aug. 2013

As expected Cliff Roberts delivers another addictive page-turning novel that kept me spell bound right until the very end.
There is a great story-line here about a man who took plenty of time to perfect his wife's murder but as we all know there is no perfect crime. Question is...can Tyler Stone get away with it.

There are of course a great cast of characters, some you will love and some you will love to hate. As I grew to understand Tyler's need for the murder of his wife I also liked where the blame could fall. The sister-in law, April is who I would have picked and maybe Tyler did also...

With great detective work can Beal and Williams figure it all out? The cast of characters grows and someone is bound to make a Fatal Mistake but in the end who will it be?

This is another great novel by Cliff Roberts and if you like mystery and suspense this is the book for you. 5 stars for you!
