Fast Times At Ridgemont High (C
Before he became an overrated filmmaker, Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) was a reporter for Rolling Stone who was so youthful looking that he could go undercover for a year at a California high school and write a book about it. He wrote the script for this film, based on that book, and it launched the careers of several young actors, including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, and, above all, Sean Penn. The story line is episodic, dealing with the lives of iconic teen types: one of the school's cool kids, a nerd, a teen queen, and, most enjoyably, the class stoner (Penn), who finds himself at odds with a strict history teacher (a wonderfully spiky Ray Walston). This is not a great movie but very entertaining and, for a certain age group, a seminal movie experience. --Marshall Fine --This text refers to an alternate DVD edition.

is because it captures a brief moment in the late 1970s San Diego of life where teenagers had alot of freedom and
there was some good music like Van Halen and Cheap Trick and dates involved listening to Led Zeppelin IV. It also
seems pretty easy going to the mall and having a pizza delivered to your classroom.
I don't know how realistic it was as there were no yard parties with local bands or trips to Tijuana which could have happened. When I looked at
getting into University of California San Diego I think you'd have had to study hard at the history lessons e.g about US and Cuba
relations. I guess if you don't there's always at job at the 7-11.
In my opinion all those teen sterotypes are all tracked back to this film, every Californian stoner in a movie is based on Spiccoli.
The mian character is played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, a sexually active fifteen year old who is unfortunately best friends with Phobe Cates' legendary character (OMG! I'd die for a body like hers!) Then there's the nice guy, who finds it hard to make the first move & Leigh's older brother, juggling relationship troubles with a job.
Okay so there's not much depth & you probably won't care much about any of the characters but this is an exceptional teen movie, if you're looking for depth & a storyline go for anything but this movie, as a matter of fact don't bother with any teen movie if thats what your looking for (with an exception to The Breakfast Club that is).
If you want a fun, fast-paced teen comedy Fast Times should be your first pick. If you don't like teen comedies you're an idiot for even considering watching this in the first place.
