The animatronic characters Dominar Rigel XVI of Hyperion and Pilot remain good, as do Claudia Black as Aeryn Sun, Chianna and the other characters who have been involved from nearer the beginning. On the other hand the newer characters like Stark and the annoying old lady with an eye in her forehead for me add nothing. I also wish Jool had remained a more regular cast member.
Farscape was the first science fiction series ever made in Australia. I do not know if not having made a series like this before helps explain how it managed, at its best, to be so inspired and original, yet also so erratic and inclined to lose its way.
Even so, as the ‘Extras’ record, the series still had many loyal fans who were upset when its cancellation was announced at the end of this Season, leaving the story unresolved. Eventually, protests helped persuade the television companies to make to make the shorter 'Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars' to wrap up as much story as they could. That, sadly, is also Farscape past its best, but it does give partial 'closure'.
The moral for those making any drama series should be always to plan to end every Season in a way that could be a fitting end to the programme, just in case that is what it has to be. Otherwise, people who might have, remembered it with fondness and recommended it to others, thus encouraging future sales, and been grateful to the company that made it, are instead left angry, complaining and blaming the company that pulled the plug on it.
The box is sturdy and the DVDs well protected. I somewhere read of someone complaining that the DVDs are so tightly fastened that they nearly break when trying to take them out. I just want to hint to that person that every DVD box has the same system. You have to press the brackets in the middle first to loosen the disk... It is a user and not a producer's fault.
The quality is great and I had hours of joy watching it. I am not that keen on the extras that is why I haven't given them any attention yet.
