I saw this by accident one night coming in from the pub half drunk but it stuck with me & I caught it again about a year later when in a more sober state. Based on the novel & supposedly a true story, it follows a German soldier's escape from a Russian labour camp & his long trek to freedom. Comparisons will be made with Slavomir Rawic's The Long Walk. Again based on fact but to me Rawic's book was better but the film poorer than As Far as My Feet............

REVIEW: for the Korean All Regions NTSC release. 122 minutes - 1:85:1 picture ratio.

A great story of one man against the odds. As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me, original german title, So weit die Füße tragen (2001) won the award of Best Production Design for Valentin Gidulyanov at the 2002 Milan International Film Festival. Unfortunatley the Korean release of the movie is the shorter International release at 122 minutes. The DVD cover is misleading in that it claims to be the original 2:35:1 aspect ratio but is in fact 1:85:1 more suitable for 16:9 telvisions. The picture is at times a little pixelated, english subtitles are burned on and DVD image is not re-mastered. But don't let it spoil the viewing of this great story. A re-mastered release of the 158 minute version would get a 5 star rating

In German with English subtitles - This is a must see. Based on a true story this is the account of a German officer at the end of the war who was arrested in Russian territory, deported to Siberia, and the incredible story of his escape and incredible journey from Siberia, back to Germany. It is compelling to the end, and I would thoroughly recommend viewing this one.
