Based on the famous film of the same name, Fantastic Voyage is the animated US TV series from the late 60s, created by the world famous animation studio Filmation (He-Man, She-Ra, Flash Gordon, Batman, Superman) and produced by renowned animators Lou Sheimer and Norm Prescott. The series follows the adventures of C.M.D.F., a secret government organisation that possesses the ability to reduce people to microscopic size for 12 hours only. Using a flying submarine called The Voyager, they do battle against unsuspecting enemies of the free world (both criminal and germinal matter). Released as a 3 disc set containing all 17 episodes. Fantastic fun and over eight hours of entertainment!

Being a long time fan of animation and especially the shows of my childhood I ordered the 3 disk collection of The complete series of Fantastic Voyage as soon as I heard of it being available.

The 3 disks arrive packaged in a normal sized dvd case. One nice bonus was the comic on the inside of the printed cover based on the initial episode of the series.

The cartoon, produced by Filmation has only a passing resemblence to the live action movie of the same name. A team of four individuals, who crew the multi purpose vehicle the Voyager battle threats to Freedom by being miniaturised and sent to solve problems that range from oxygen absorbing crystals to atomic and alien butterflies to mystical orbs. Tbere are 17, 22 minute episodes.

There are warnings of flashing images on the dvd due to Filmation's use strobing colours for some of their backgrounds. The animation is somewhat stylised while still being realistic enough to empathise wth the 2D characters. The real star of the show is the Voyager which when miniaturised can fly, hover and act like a submarine.

Seeing this available was a good blast for the past and the title is very well packaged. The video quality of the episodes I've seen so far has been good and sharp with just a few scratches visible occasionally.

This is a blast from the past, a memory from my childhood.
Yes the animation is dated, so are the stories. But I have so many fond memories of old shows like this that I can still enjoy this for what it is, good old style adventure, just sit there and enjoy the adventures of the crew of one of the best looking ships on TV, The Voyager... Just enjoy.

I bought this for my brother who enjoyed this TV series when he was kid. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment never released this series on home video in the United States. Now almost 50 years and with the use of his multi-region disc player, he can finally see it again. The picture quality is very good. The problem is with the audio of the first 3 episodes on disc one. When played back in stereo, the sould only comes out of the left speaker instead of being in the center where the mono sound should be coming from. I hope that one day 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release the series on Region 1 discs for the United States and fix the audio problems. A Dolby Digital 5.1 remix would be a great bonus.

The Filmation team's version of Fantatsic Voyage arrives on DVD with all 17 episodes comprising of a three disc set with great packaging both inside and out.
The colours are vivid and the audio crisp and clear. Ted Knight, Marvin Miller and Jane Webb do their ususal superb job of bringing the characters to life. Ted had a great range and supplies the voices for quite a few characters including hero Jonathan Kidd.

This was my favorite cartoon as a kid. Why it was not dedicated to DVD in the US as it was in the UK is beyond me. There's a niche audience for it for sure. Maybe we're just not large enough.
