About the Author

Before joining Marvel Comics, writer Matt Fraction had already established his reputation as an emerging new talent with his work on Last of the Independents. Fraction's tale of a bank robbery gone wrong earned him a coveted "A" grade from Entertainment Fraction was handpicked to launch two of Marvel's biggest projects for 2006: Punisher War Journal with artist Ariel Olivetti, and Immortal Iron Fist, with co-writer Ed Brubaker and artist David Aja. Both series met with overwhelming critical and fan acclaim, selling out their respective first issues within days of release. This led to two even bigger projects: The launching of Invincible Iron Man, a high-profile first issue premiering the same month as the blockbuster film; and Uncanny X-Men, written in tandem with Immortal Iron Fist partner Brubaker. In addition to his Marvel work, Fraction writes Casanova, an off-beat series illustrated by Gabriel Ba which recently moved to Marvel's Icon imprint.

Mark Bagley (born August 7, 1957) is an American comic book artist. He has worked for Marvel Comics and DC Comics on such titles as The Amazing Spider-Man, Thunderbolts, New Warriors, and Ultimate Spider-Man.

A new golden age- or at least hints of the first

I only review if very few others have, or if I have something strongly positive to say. Marvel's Fantastic Four continue to allow me to combine these pleasures.

The new story arc has the family (inc. the kids) getting some extended R&R, in a "Lost in Space" scenario that starts in fine style. But Reed has an agenda undisclosed even to Sue- and Franklin's having bad dreams.

This reprints material from Fantastic Four #1-3. The art is by Marks Bagley, Farmer and Morales, and is amongst the best to grace the strip since Alan Davis. Matt Fraction orchestrates the players deftly, playing to all their strengths: witness Reed making his lonely decision, Johnny combining business with pleasure, Sue maintaining female solidarity with Medusa, and Ben... why does he ever go back to Yancy Street?

Meanwhile, the FF's B-Team (Ant Man, She Hulk, Medusa and "Miss Thing") is left in charge of the Future Foundation. But Ant-man has a personal reason to turn the kids' energies into a very dangerous project- the MOST dangerous.

The B-team, from FF (Future Foundation) #1-3, are illustrated in sharp pop-art style by Michael and Laura Allred (often reminiscent of Kirby; check out the "machine that says boop-boop room"). The dynamic hits the floor running, with only Miss Thing having to establish her credentials, and the FuFound personalities consistently endearing.

I'm annoyed that the Valeria/Bentley pairing has been broken up, and this, in a fit of pique, made me bring the stars down to four. But I shall certainly be collecting. A new golden age? Possibly a bit much on four stars- but there is something here very reminiscent of the Lee/Kirkby days. I have high hopes.

I haven't read much of Fantastic Four over the year.

Since this was a fresh new place to start i figured why not.

Story is good with the family taking to Space to educate their Kids with some first hand experience and art is equally good.

This book also features the first 3 issues of the new FF, while i am familiar with the Fantastic Four characters the new FF feature kne i've never read before but there was something special anout it which has me ready to order the next FF TPB.

Whilst I didn't realise it was a cross over with ff, so half fantastic four comics and half a group with ant man, medusa, she-hulk and ms. Thing, I actually really enjoyed it and now plan on reading the ff series.

Coming from two separate comic series the art style switches throughout but it is written and designed seemlessly to the point at which you don't notice. This story does a better job of setting up volume 2 and ff volume 1 than it does telling its own story, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and look forward to both series.

Remembering and honouring what makes the FF great.....

This is a flawed book, but one that took chances, and for that I marked it up. It’s refreshing to see something a little different, and Matt Fraction combines humour and action really well. At times the humour overshadows a tad too much perhaps, but It essentially works. The art is excellent. Mark Bagley with the traditional, Mike Allred with the indie sensibility, both artists drawing their respective sides of the alternating episodes showing the real FF and their replacements.
The FF has always been about fun, and it was nice to see a approach that not only remembered that, but honoured it.

A good series

The Fantastic Four has always been one of my favourite superhero team, in fact it was the series that got me into comic books in the first place. The storyline is really good and so is the art work. The FF team is good but not that great, I think that it is mainly let down by the art work. Still the main Fantastic Four team is great and it is a great book.
