I read this book after reading and enjoying Bear, Otter and the Kid by TJ Klune, which has a similar story line about two gay guys falling in love, one with a child with a mother gone but not out of the picture. This had less of a story keeping it together and far to much sex for a book with such a story. Please m/m book writers either write an erotic novel with a weak plot and lots of sex or a strong character led story with a bit of m/m sex thrown in. This would have been a better book if the story had been more of the plot than the sex was.

Richard - liberal, responsible sole parent to an 8 year old. Logan - ex military, used to don't ask, don't tell. The two of them together make chalk and cheese look like siamese twins but somehow they work. And this story definitely works. Nick is very believable as a character, and is an excellent foil for the hot sex between Logan and Richard - they have to find the time to be together whilst considering the sensibilities of a young boy and handle the trauma of a potential custody battle, kidnapping, and their major differences of view.

I saved this for a weekend when I could totally switch off and enjoy it and I'm glad I did - I loved it, from start to finish. Z A Maxfield is pretty much an auto buy for me and this story just confirms why. Five stars without a doubt.

I have read a number of books by this author but I have to say this one is the best so far. They are all good don't take me wrong but this is tender and funny and with a bit of tension...just throughly enjoyable. For those ones that want to read a story and not just a leaflet of sex scenes with some comments in between ... then this is your book.

In my opinion this novel is the best one I have read by Z.A. Maxfield. The most important reason for my opinion is because of the way the writer has described the relationship between the young boy Nick (Richard's grandson and Richard (Nick's grandfather). It is a very tight relationship filled with emotion, tenderness, responsibility but also humour.
Richard is determined to provide for Nick in the best possible way to give him a good start in life. Nick is no doubt his priority number one. The relationship between these two principal characters is very convincing and is indeed a most enjoyable read. Bringing up children is not an easy task and there are also ups and downs for Nick and Richard.

The relationship between Richard and Logan (the hot boyfriend) also feels convincing but I think there are too many love-making (or rather sex-) scenes. In some cases they feel misplaced.

This is a very well-written and believable novel but some of the sex-scenes do seem unnecessary and therefore my marks will be 5-.
Highly rrecommended novel.

Whilst I enjoyed this book, the regular sex scenes detracted from the storyline and stopped the flow. To my mind, the book would have been better without them and instead should have concentrated more on the relationship between the boy and his mother.

Absolutely lovely. It feels so nice to end a book with a massive smile on my face. Definitely a wonderfully written book, with a few typos but you can easily let them slide. Honestly such a heart warming story - Richard and Logan definitely got what they deserved. So glad there was a happy ending.
