To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This is a 45MB program selling at £1/MB. It's robbery! The software is pretty good and is very versatile and useful, but if you can find somewhere else to get it from then do so. Thankfully it's not one of these products with limited installs - I have it installed on my pc, laptop, and windows tablet with no problems.
I'm not finding this quite as easy to use as others say. However, unlike RootsMagic which I have used for many years now and of which I had just downloaded the latest version, it does provide copious information in the form of an online help book and a small 'Getting started' booklet. I suspect it is much more user-friendly if these are read, but I haven't managed to get very far as yet as my attention easily wanders. Transferring my RM gedcom went very smoothly and nothing seems to have been lost in the process. I can't comment on whether or not links would have transferred as I was moving everything to a new computer at the time so all links were broken with RM too. The appearance of FH is far better than RM and can be personalised to a degree. I also like the tree options which include a set of concentric circles radiating from the root person with colour coding for maternal and paternal lines. All relatives can be set to show their relationship to the root person which makes the family feel more personal and less disjointed than with RM. I suppose the highest praise I could give is that I look forward to working on my tree now whilst I was finding it a chore with RM, and I don't think this new enthusiasm is purely about the novelty of using different software. Overall I wish I had bought FAmily Historian originally rather than spending my money on RootsMagic. I would recommend it.
Was looking for a piece of software that would enable me to build my family tree. Family Historian is easy to use with clear instructions and provides excellent value with money. Compared to many on the market (I did quite a bit of research before purchasing) this software is truly streets ahead. Has the facility to store and link photos/media and produce diagrams etc. Very good indeed.
I bought Family Historian 3 and its first upgrade, but lost the program when I changed computers as it the code would not read once again. Recently decided to try again, but version 5 to upgrade from a program so far back. However version 5 is excellent,but - although progressing well - by accident I managed to delete half of my entries - so TAKE CARE!- instead of merely an inaccurate entry. Very good indeed but the information guide poor - although I would recommend you to buy the booklet as well - is so tiny you feel I could do with more. My version 3+ had such a large book it came on a disk and I had to print it out myself (taking two A4 wide files to hold it all) but it clearly dealt with every possibility you might encounter. I miss that! Also, watch Delete, as just now I deleted most of what I have already entered in error, when deleting one of two identical entries I had made! I believe I was asked - did I wish to delete the name or the entry? -, but when I selected the entry was asked, did I want the whole entry or something, and said Yes, and the bulk of what I have entered for several days has completely vanished! This constituted a great deal of entries including all the large amount of information I had done that morning.... Ah, woe is me.....
I read all the reviews first before purchasing this item. Someone in the reviews mentioned downloading the 30 day trial. Superb. I did the trial for about a week to find my feet with it. Having been wowed by the software, purchased it.
Firstly, remember this is software to organise your family tree. Secondly, not for the faint hearted, it takes some playing about with first to try all the variations etc. Finally, once you do master all the different buttons, publishing, books, narratives - it is outstanding.
For me personally this is perfect. At the moment doing various family trees so a great way to organise things and present them in a legible format. My own tree has about 5000 people. The other trees for friends etc have between 100 to 1000 people.
If you have the patience to really learn the software this is a must buy item.
If you are new to computing or software it can still be used with basic pages.
I have used a history programme befor but wanted to upgrade and so far this has proved to be very good.I transfered the old information and am now having to go through and alter that which didn't transfer over correctly. This may be the programme or me not doing it correctly. The programme seems to be easy to use and there are a lot more features to play with.
