Monica McInerney has once again produced a beautifully written novel. This is similar to 'The Alphabet Sisters' in the sense that it includes a wonderful plot line that does not just revolve around two main characters and their romance.
I can not emphasise how much I absolutely LOVE this book. It has romance, mystery, humour, family - it can make you smile, cry and laugh.
Once again, McInerney has outdone herself with this absolutely beautiful novel. I can not wait to read the next novel.

As a newcomer to Monica McInerney's books I was instantly hooked on reading "Family Baggage". I soon became engrossed with Harriet's (main character) life, family, gifts and weaknesses and enjoyed her character throughout. It was really sad for me to come to the end of the book. Maybe of little importance to many I also appreciated that the "f" word was only used once, a word I find offensive and used far too often by even my most favourite authors. I highly recommend this book, which offers romance, mystery and, all in all, a jolly good read.

Format: Paperback
Turner Travels is a family owned travel agency in Australia. They have arranged hundreds, if not thousands, of tours that are specially made for their customers.

*** I found this story to be a very good distraction for a rainy afternoon or a sleepless night. It has drama, but runs much like a soap opera. A few of the flashbacks are a bit long, but none are too distracting. You will find no suspense to keep you awake, but you will not be bored and fall asleep either. Pick this novel up for some beach reading or for some light reading as you travel somewhere, but if you want some suspense to keep things lively, reach elsewhere. ***

This is the second Monica McInerney book I have read, and it is as gripping in its basic storyline as Those Faraday Girls.

The Turner Travel Agency is based in Australia and although the book flits back to the country and the people Harriet has left behind its focus is on Cornwall. Here Harriet has to take the Willoughby TV tour on her own after her brother James has an accident and her surrogate sister Lara disappears.

We as readers see Harriet go through reliving what led to her nervous breakdown caused by the death of her parents. The introduction of Lara to the Turner family when she was just eight after the death of her parents, the wonderful support of Gloria, Austin the son who broke away from the family business. As well as Melissa, James overbearing, bossy wife who takes the business to another level. All these incidences, anecdotes and stories from the past are told in flashback chapters. McInereny weaves them into the book, so you do not see the join in jumping backwards and forwards but you always know exactly where you are in the story.

As the story unfolds we see the whole Turner family change whether for the better or not is an opinion of each of us who read the book. The suspense is held in wanting to find out why they act and react as they do to the situations they are in.

A book you can get into and lost in. Lost in the descriptions of the scenery of Australia, Cornwall and even Ireland. The author must be well travelled or well researched to cover it all so well. Even down to the possessiveness of those on the Willoughby tour, who believe it all to be real? I felt as a reader I had even watched this series (it is fictitious) as it was all brought to life so effectively. That is what makes this book a good read.

I have just recently 'found' this author and am really impressed with her style of writing. Stories are very interesting and real without any of the normal 'smut' etc. They come into the 'can't put down' category and I am really excited to find more of the same author. Enjoy!!!

Family Baggage is the first book I have read by Monica McInerney and I just loved it. I couldn't put it down and it is a long time since I have read a book that has got me so hooked. It really does make one laugh and cry and the story is just so riveting.

It is always a pleasure to find a different author and I am just going to order some more of her books. Thank goodness she has written quite a few so I have a lot of happy reading hours ahead.

Thanks Monica for your writing

I haven`t finished this book yet, but just had to review it as I`m really loving it.

Really well developed BELIEVEABLE characters, a good plot (so far), a fab range of settings from Cornwall to Oz and a bit of mystery. Even the sub-plots are great. Its one of those books that`s hard to put down. I`ll definity be reading more of Monica McInerney`s books. :-)
