Format: Paperback
This is the ninth collaboration by the Medieval Murderers (Ian Morson, Bernard Knight, Philip Gooden, Karen Maitland, Susanna Gregory, Simon Beaufort), all acclaimed historical novelists in their own right. This group has written these books which carry a common theme through the historical periods of their stories from ancient times through to more modern periods. These authors all write very well, and their own books are of course well worth reading. The collaborative efforts of the Medieval Murderers are always well planned and eminently readable as well.

This book offers a prologue, five Acts and an epilogue around the theme of Beornwyn of Lythe, murdered in AD 848 and beatified as a saint. Always very cleverly done, these books offer short stories set in different times and places, with a common thread with subtleties that only the reader can know of as the narrative moves forward chronologically. This is a really good read, and a good offering from the Medieval Murderers.

The problem with this series of books from the medieval murderers is that some parts of it are better than others, depending on which particular author wrote it.You sometimes get the impression that one or two of them are not as committed as they should be to the project. This particular offering is quite a good book but the ending is particularly weak.It continues the usual pattern of following an ancient item ,in this case the bones of a woman who was some kind of unofficial saint, through history and describing its adventures on the way.
Worth reading especially for the fans of the authors but come back Michael Jecks is my final wish.

Another winning volume. But the format is tiring slightly, and one or two of the stories were a little hard to fit into the premise. Otherwise, a good read.

Very good but not as good as some of the earlier Medieval Murderers Group. Good stories but it was difficult to follow the thread at times
