i must say that i really enjoyed the sub-stories and the mad mix of both very likable and well..unlikable characters.for me the best part of this book is the characterization.there is also a nice dose of humor as well.in my opinion this is not Jill's best book, and did take quite some time to get going, but nevertheless still quite a good easy read.
on a personal level i have to say i hated the outcome of Estelle and Oliver's relationship.this however for me is the case in pretty much all books, where a husband/wife/partner gets cheated on, i don't like seeing them get back together, but at the very least i would expect them to really suffer.i know not everyone will share my view on this, but even so i don't feel that there was a proper reconciliation between the couple.in fact Oliver only explains his reasons for the affair as being just one of those things that just happens.further, with the long reaching consequences of Oliver's affair i just didn't see how in just over a page and how all this could be reconciled.
even though this was not Jill's best i will still keep reading her books.i love her diverse mix of characters and her sub-stories,though in this one the main story seemed to be missing.though i wouldn't rave about this book i would recommend her as an author to give a go!3.5 stars
This is my third book for Mansell, and I was over the moon about the first two books I read for her, and thought I would be about this one too - as the reviews were outstanding - but I wasn't.
I didn't like the characters, I felt they were all shallow, and irritating. A lot of it was unrealistic, and everyone seemed to be falling in love in a matter of days! The twists and turns made no sense, and everything seemed a little TOO coincidental. And this book has pretty much VERY LITTLE to do with Maddy and Kerr - the supposed main characters of the book. It had a lot more to do with the secondary characters - mainly Kate and her family.
Yes, I found a lot of the text funny, but I never said Mansell wasn't funny. She's a good writer, she's capable of writing incredible books. So the writing was good, it's the plot I hated. I do have one remark though, at some point Will says, "let me just grab a shower" and that really bothered me because it makes no sense. You can't GRAB a shower, you take one, you have one, but you don't GRAB one. Sheesh! I really needed to get that one out.
Back to the story now, I think Den deserved a much larger part in the story than he was given, since the whole "concept" revolved around him and the accident he was involved in. Especially after everything you find out in the end, I think Mansell robbed him off his story, which I think would've been a very good one. This book should have been about Den, rather than Kerr, and should have revolved more around their family rather than Kate's extremely shallow and broken family.Read more ›
