Product description

Product Description

FALLEN SOLDIER: The Inspiration Two years ago, while listening to music in his car, acclaimed thriller writer and former foreign correspondent Frederick Forsyth, who has first-hand experience of some of the world’s most brutal conflicts, was struck by the many war anniversaries that lay ahead and the endless sacrifice made by members of the armed forces worldwide. He could think of no sung lament for the ‘fallen’ and this inspired him to compose a sixteen-line, four-verse poem. But he thought it should be sung, not read. Then fate took a hand. At his village church in Buckinghamshire Forsyth heard the pure, powerful voice of soprano Melissa from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Melissa then introduced Forsyth to arranger Gareth Ellis Williams. It was Gareth who came up with a melody to fit Forsyth’s words and arranged the music for soprano, violin, harp and pipes. The result is the haunting, plaintive, evocative Fallen Soldier.

The lyricist: Frederick Forsyth Born in Ashford, Kent in August 1938, the only son of two shopkeepers who encouraged him to spread his wings, travel and see the world. A boyhood enthusiasm for aeroplanes and especially the fighters based near his childhood home, he lusted to join the RAF which he did at seventeen (after being rather imaginative about his real age - the joining age was eighteen). He received his ‘wings’ on single-seat jets at nineteen. Eventually leaving the RAF, Frederick went into journalism, aiming to become a foreign correspondent and travel the world. He worked for Reuters in Paris and East Berlin, then the BBC in Europe and Africa, before parting company with them over the Nigeria-Biafra war. He stayed on in the rain forest as a freelance until the end two years later. Best known as an author, Frederick Forsyth's first novel The Day of The Jackal was published in 1971 and became an instant best-seller. With over 20 books written and 70 million books sold worldwide, including The Odessa File, The Fourth Protocol, The Dogs of War and The Kill List - Frederick Forsyth is one of our most successful British writers. Frederick Forsyth was awarded a CBE in 1997. Frederick Forsyth's autobiography is due out in paperback May 2016.

The vocalist: Melissa Beautiful, charismatic and blessed with a gorgeous soprano voice, crossover artist Melissa is just at home performing on the stage at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as she is showcasing her exceptional vocal talents at major sporting and corporate events.

The composer and arranger: Gareth Ellis Williams Much in demand as a record producer, sound engineer, arranger and performer, Gareth has worked on a diverse range of projects involving some of the biggest names in the music business, including Sarah Brightman, Katherine Jenkins, Lesley Garrett and Gareth Malone.
