I've been praising Elizabeth's writing since I was introduced to her Elemental Mysteries series in 2011. If you look at my reviews of A Hidden Fire, This Same Earth and The Force of Wind you would see why I'm so enamoured with her work.

First of all, she writes vampires like Anne Rice would have written them - cunning, cautious, extremely political, clever and very, very dangerous. They might act like spoiled children sometimes but there are always multiple layers and reasons to their motivation.

Secondly, the world-building is exquisite. The research which must have gone into this series is enormous - from ancient Persia and Italian Renaissance to the power of elements and Asian mythology. The main characters travel all over the world in search of answers, and each location is carefully represented.

At last, the characters themselves, be that the main couple Giovanni Vecchio and Beatrice De Novo, or the cast of multiple secondary characters, Tenzin, Ben, Carwyn, Lorenzo, Matt and Dez, Baojia, etc. and many others are not just figureheads. They are complex, warm, and alive.

The conclusion of Elemental Mysteries was phenomenal. Not only I received the answers to my questions, I was forced to reevaluate the main villain, Lorenzo, in lieu of new revelations about his and Gio's past, and I actually felt for him. I felt for Lorenzo, and I haven't thought it would ever be possible.

The ending is deep, revenge is bitter and heart-wrenching, and it's all very philosophical.

Both Gio and Beatrice are totally kicking everyone's butt in this book, B with her Doc Martens and hooked swords and Gio with his fire starter powers. Tenzin is wickedly scary and fun, and Carwyn stays true to his element with Hawaiian shirts, beer and wrestling.

I have lived and breathed this world of Elizabeth Hunter's for the past week, I literally haven't been able to put these books down. And now Giovanni's and Beatrice's journey has come to an end and what an explosive end! How could I find myself close to tears towards the end! Well simply it's because of the excellent way E. Hunter has brought these characters to life. You can honestly imagine that they are walking the earth and living amongst us and that you know them as well as they know each other.

I am saddened this has come to an end, but then all good things must come to an end. I was more than happy to read what could come next at the end of the book - I would love this to happen.

I will miss them all, Giovanni, Beatrice, Denzin, Carwyn, Ben, Dez, Matt and all of the rest of the amazing characters, but I know I will revisit them over and over again to get my fix of this brilliant series.

I totally loved this series! The whole world was just brilliant, it was well written and thought out and each book kept me hooked and I just had to know what happened next! I would thoroughly recommend these to anyone that loves a paranormal romance. There are some love scenes but nothing too explicit. My one criticism (which is echoed in these reviews a fair bit) is the over use of smirking and snickering. It would be ok to use in some places but others, it just didn't quite fit and a different word would have been better. Apart from that though, I loved them all! It just all came together and made so much sense come the end. I'm really considering going onto one of her other series' as I enjoyed this so much.

I couldn't put this down. Having read books 2 and 3 over the last few days I found I was distracted at work and couldn't wait to get home so I could read more! Thank goodness I'd taken today off work anyway and I finished this last book of the 4. It is so well written I felt I was there. Part of me wanted to hurry up and read it to find out how it all unfolds but another part wanted me to savour it because it was such a wonderful story.

I cannot get over how well written these are - the character development is just amazing. I love all the characters in these books - even the baddies. You know it's a good book when you actually feel an emotional response to a baddie being killed even though you knew it was going to happen! I couldn't get enough and am so grateful to have found Elizabeth Hunter!

all of the Elizabeth Hunter books read thus far are a different slant on the supernatural beings "Vampires" making them seem very human in their outlook on their lives. I have enjoyed them all immensely

I just happened to stumble upon these books since they were in the 'you may like these' list, and I am so glad that I did.

The characters kept me interested for all 4 books, which is quite an accomplishment, as sometimes, in series, authors over use phrases, but this author didn't. She kept it fresh and pacey.

I liked the fact that B can kick ass in this novel as it did frustrate me when she was too easily captured before. I particularly liked her adeptness with some very cool weaponry, and the details about severed spinal cords adds to the heart racing experience! I also liked that she could cope other own without Gio for a while, and actually contributed to the battle plan. Don't want to give anything else away about that though.

Hunter introduces some new and really interesting characters, particularly Donatella and Livia! You will enjoy hating one of these divas and really embrace the other. for a while...

Hunter really heightens the political tension with this story and brings the issues of the elixir to a crescendo with some very unsettling consequences. not all is as it seemed, and I know I was shocked by the revelations. She also very cleverly shakes up our formed opinion of Lorenzo, revealing his back story, so that it is no longer so easy to hate him.

Fans of Tenzin and Carwynn will not be disappointed, as they become quite involved in the plot, and readers will enjoy seeing Ben's growth into a fine young man.

I will miss B and Gio and his particular manner of ripping doors off hinges in his passion!

Well done Elizabeth Hunter.
