Review

'a very personal document, which will remind colleagues and pupils of comments and conversations over many years.' Andrew Lintott, Worcester College, Oxford. THES

'a finely produced ... few will complain of feeling short-changed in learning, wit, entertainment or vigour of argument' Journal of Roman Studies

'excellent book ... very satisfying fare ... His style is clarity itself: the argument may be demanding, but never the way in which they are expressed.' T.P. Wiseman, University of Exeter, Classical Review

5.0 out of 5 stars No reviews because no one can afford it? 25 Mar. 2014
By Andy Lowry - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is widely cited by scholars of Roman history as a masterpiece. But who can afford a copy? Why won't Oxford make an affordable paperback available (as it's done for the scarcely more readable classic by Syme, "The Roman Revolution")? Or even a Kindle edition? Is ancient history only for the affluent? O tempora! O mores!
