Review

Want to take a trip to the dark side and back? Fall to Pieces is a brutally honest and compelling account of Mary Weiland's struggles with addiction and mental illness that will have you on the edge of your seat with every turn of the page. This is a cautionary story that offers hope and solution to these often seemingly hopeless conditions. Brave, bold and unfiltered, Mary's writing injects humor and levity in a way that is both entertaining and necessary, while keeping the focus on the extremely serious and life threatening behaviors that she confronts. Many people don't have the opportunity to come back and share their experiences, and I have no doubt that this important book will help save many lives.
--Dave Navarro, Guitarist, September 2009

Review

"Mary Weiland's beautifully crafted memoir takes the reader through the journey that is so very common today, the slow drift into addiction and mental illness. Honest, clear, and accurate, Fall to Pieces is perhaps the most vivid rendition of this experience I have ever come across."--Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of Loveline and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, author of The Mirror Effect and Cracked

The reason i bought this book was to read about a certain Scott Weiland and his 'exploits' ! I had been waiting a while for this to come out and it was well worth the wait . There are a couple of 'time' mistakes throughout but i can forgive and forget on that (i.e dates etc...) . The only other criticism i found was that the book jumps a little back and forth throughout and can be a little confusing . This is definately a book for Scott Weiland , Stone Temple Pilots or Velvet Revolver fans . I genuinely can't see anyone else buying this book . Defiantely a 5 star read if you are any of the above !

Quite simply, this is one of the best books I have ever read. Forsberg Weiland doesn't deal in clichés or worry about revealing too much of her life, it's ALL there. Unbelievably honest, very witty and endearing, this is a book chronicling a journey of a girl from a dirt poor, broken home to a teenager riddled with self doubt and self loathing to a woman who became a model, falling in love with a rock star, drug abuse and mental illness. Forsberg Weiland has a playful writing style, inviting you into her world and mind. It's never comfortable, it's often heartbreaking, but it's never dull and she never lapses into being deliberately controversial or shocking and refreshingly, she doesn't slag off anybody, instead she tries to understand them.

Full disclosure, to borrow one of her phrases. I am a big fan of STP, especially the first two albums and have bought all but one of their albums over the years and I can honestly say I had never heard of this woman till after Weiland's death.

Straight off the bat this is a compelling read, pulling you deep into her world and what it must be like to have grown up in such an unstable environment and then of course the perils and temptations of the adult world come knocking. This is a highly engaging and no holds barred look into the life of addiction and mental illness and really shows us how mentally and physically draining and exhausting it all is for the addict and all those around them. An eye opening read!

Her story is incredible and inspiring. The irony, the strenght, the pain, it all feels real, and it is. She did a great job. STP and Scott Weiland's fans will enjoy it as it gives a very close look on the whole thing, the beginning of the band, their rise to success and the hardships too. Mary's and Scott's struggle with drugs, rehabs, craziness, and their love, is narrated intensely and with the details only a sensitive woman like her could see. A great book to read.
