Product description

From the Inside Flap

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, believable, fast paced historical fiction set in the Spanish Civil War 14 Jan. 2017
By S. Darragh - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Another great novel from Spain's premier novelist. Falco is a handsome womanizing Spaniard with a checkered past. He would have been a naval officer, but he got caught in a scandal at the Naval Academy, leading to his departure from Spain, which put him in various rebellions of the 1920s. Now, Spain is locked in a Civil War and Falco is back and working for Naval Intelligence. The plot is believable, no surprise given author Arturo Perez-Reverte's mastery of Historical Fiction, and the writing is superb and fast paced. While the Communists are trying to kill off all their Republican opposition, the Nationalists too have their divisions. To heal those divisions, an operation is mounted to rescue the founder of the Spanish Falangist Party, Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, from Alicante Prision, where he is being held. To this end Falco is charged with launching the rescue, using young Falangist volunteers. They are the ones who will execute the mission, and it Falco's duty to get them within range of the prison, then linking up with them at the appointed place and time to get Primo de Rivera aboard a German military vessel which will carry him to Nationalist territory. Needless to say, there is a beautiful young woman in the group, and Falco, despite himself, develops feelings for her, though he suspects she might be a lesbian given that she has spurned his advances. Needless to say, surprises abound. Again, very well written and paced, with useful historical touches that will excite interest in real personalities and events. And sadly, good people can do horrible as well as noble acts on every side in a war.

5.0 out of 5 stars Falcó o el Bond latino como tiene que ser 22 Oct. 2016
By Cliente Kindle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

2.0 out of 5 stars Falcò 26 Nov. 2016
By Nitza E. Morales - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't think I'll read the sequel when it comes out. 29 Dec. 2016
By aloysius - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Falcó is definitely NOT Capitán Alatriste, notwithstanding the blurb by the publisher. Falcó is, in fact, a person without a conscience, a simple gun for hire, serving whoever pays him and not worrying about the consequences. The setting of the Spanish Civil War is interesting, because it was, in many ways, an "every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost" kind of war, notwithstanding the attempts by Hemingway and others to romanticize it. Falcó is definitely not a romanticist.
It's pretty obvious that the author is considering a sequel, involving the equally bloodless and bloodthirsty female protagonist, who rescues and is rescued by the male protagonist after a lot of pointless preliminary skirmishing. I don't think I'll read it when it comes out.
4.0 out of 5 stars Falcó, la novela de un canalla 29 April 2017
By Jose Pelaez - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
