I owned this book as a child but it was lost over time. I was so happy to see it has been republished, and am enjoying reading the stories to my daughter. The illustrations by Jan Pienkowski have a dreamlike quality that I love. This hardback version with its gilt-edged pages would make a super present for a lover of traditional fairy tales or their offspring !!

I bought this book purely because of the illustrations (I am an art student) and I absolutely love it. Jan Pienkowski's work is amazing and I never tire of looking at it. I have also just ordered his new book - The Thousand Nights and One Night

Simply beautiful illustrations; what else whould you expect from Jan Pienkowski! The text is intertwined with the art of Pienkowski; dark, three dimensional images that draw children and adults into the world of the fairy tale. The print quality is wonderful, the silhouttes the best he has done, and the romance seeps from every page. Delightful.
