Contacted customer service and got a prompt response to ship to their service center and would need couple of weeks to diagnose. Considering the size, shipping would cost some 30-40% of purchase price and reason for my star rating.
Will update the feedback as I navigate through the support process and how it impacts ROI.
Shipping cost: Was able to find a lowest shipping option of ~$16 from USPS with no tracking. Took a chance!!!
Warranty followup: Customer service followed up immediately and within few weeks shipped another unit which is now functional. Based on the packaging (inside the box wrappers and some visible scratches) it looks to be a refurbished unit.
I cook rice a few times each week and it comes out perfect every time. I love it for perfectly tender baby-back ribs...20 minutes at high pressure then I brush them with sauce and put them under the broiler for 10 minutes per side...2 full racks of baby-back ribs in less than an hour is a thing of beauty! I've cooked chicken noodle soup, meatballs in gravy, countless rice casserole-type dishes, many pasta with sauce dishes and lots of different grains. My latest discovery was sweet potatoes...I cooked 4 whole sweet potatoes in 7 minutes and the skins just slipped off. Super easy and convenient. I love my multi cookers! Only rating 4 stars because of the lid issue with one of the cookers.
Now, minutes before a good dinner is expected, I can toss ingredients into my pressure cooker and have a tasty fabulous meal ready! No really! It's hard to believe that you can toss whole chicken breasts (even frozen because you forgot to thaw them that morning) into the cooker with peppers, onions, tomatoes and a can of Rotel and in 8 minutes of cooking have chicken ready for shredding for tacos. Or, if you have an hour, throw in a roast, can of pineapple or applesauce, some water, thyme and basalmic vinegar, brown sugar and whatever else you have in the fridge and Voila! tender pot roast with au jus.
Honestly, my roasts sucked before this. Now, a rough piece of chuck becomes a family favorite!
The delay feature means that I can put my steel cut oats or groats in it the night before and have it cook at 5:30 in the morning so it is ready as people wake and get ready for the day.
The Rice feature lets me empty my shredded chicken contents into a serving bowl and quickly make a Spanish rice in 4-6 minutes while we shred the chicken. The brown feature lets me toast the said rice before we actually steam it.
If your family hates casseroles, like mine; hates boxed dinners, like mine does; hates, tasteless mush, like mine does; buy this.
I would also buy a second stainless or nonstick insert so you can quickly swap out dishes. You know, pull out the roast to let it rest while you make mashed potatoes in it ( 7 minutes). The extra bowls are available on Amazon.6-quart Pressure Cooker 18/10 Stainless Steel Cooking Pot or 6-quart Pressure Cooker Non-Stick Cooking Pot
There are some pressure cooking books that I've heard are good, though I've really just been winging it. I have found some excellent recipes on chefbrad.com. Once a week a group of us ladies get together with our pressure cookers and Bosch mixers and share recipes. We all make a meal for that night. Chef Brad has been a big inspiration. You probably should buy the Bosch mixer so you can make the homemade buns for the pulled pork and chicken you will be making. Bosch Universal Plus Kitchen Machine
