Product description

Seventeen-year-old Paul is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that neither his therapist or best friend and fellow geeky social outcast Mac can provide answers for. Worse still, Paul is starting to see the Fades – the spirits of the dead – all around him. They’re everywhere but they just can’t be seen, smelt, heard or touched by ordinary human beings. But now an embittered and vengeful Fade has found a way to break the barrier between the dead and the living and Paul and Mac and their friends and family are all right in the eye of the storm. The fate of humanity rests in the hands of two teenagers who already have enough trouble getting through a day in one piece, let alone saving the world…

Okay, so I've only given this 5 stars, but if possible I would have given it 4.5. That's because the ending is rather scrappy with far too many loose ends for my liking. In that respect it reminded me of the ending of the TV series Sirens, which was obviously set up for series 2 . Obviously some brain dead programme scheduler, or whoever it is who makes these decisions, decided on cost rather than popularity.
Every once in a while it's good to escape into that fantasy world. Rationally, the likelihood of this happening is pretty remote, but then so is the prospect of handsome men in figure hugging lycra, swinging through the skies from one skyscraper to another. In these situations you need to suspend belief, sit back and be entertained. Once you go along the track of thinking 'why did they do that' or 'how did that happen', 'they'd never do that' etc you've lost the point. There are a few places where you could ask yourself that question...How come the Angelic Killer kills a farmer, strips him and eats part of his flesh? Then he goes into town and does the same to a teenager and then into a public toilet and does the same to another man. Logically, you'd think that people would find it was a bit strange to find three naked corpses with big chunks of flesh taken out of them?
I liked the twists in this story, some super characterization, Tom Ellis, great make-up, some humour, the pace of the story-line, oh, and did I mention Tom Ellis? I am biased in terms of Mr Ellis and would probably buy a video of him making a cup of tea.
Iain de Caestecker did a great job as the 17 year old Paul. He also had some great lines I think my favourite was then he told his new girlfriend that he grew wings when he ejaculated!!! Not a run of the mill chat up line!!!! Actually, that's the type of line I could imagine Simon Pegg delivering. Paul and his best friend Mac work well as the two school outcasts/weirdos and bounce off each other really well.
Lots of excellent other actors/actresses and very few poor performances IMO
I watched this in two sessions and really enjoyed it.

It's astonishing to think this intelligent witty teen horror series from BBC3 was cancelled in favour of long-past-its-sell-by-date Being Human. This blu-ray release goes some way to making up for that. The picture quality is fantastic and there are sufficient extras to make it worth purchasing. Positives include superb casting (with one glaring exception) - Iain de Caestecker and Daniel Kaluuya are both fantastic with help from a luxury supporting cast - any one of Claire Rushbrook, Tom Ellis, Johnny Harris, Joe Dempsie and Natalie Dormer would give any show class. Unfortunately Sophie Wu as The Girlfriend is not in the same league as everyone else and does drag down every scene she is in, but only marginally. The script is intricate, possibly too much so and the serial is a bit too long but the direction doesn't skimp on the horror and the sense of eerie dread is impressively maintained. The visuals are extremely well-executed for a low-budget show and any youth-market horror series that can reference both Romeo and Juliet AND Cyrano de Bergerac in the same scene gets my vote. There are far far worse shows out there that get renewed year after year so spend your money on this blu-ray and you won't be disappointed.

I loved this series and I was happy beyond words when it came out on bluray. I was even happier when I saw the bargain price. However, you get what you pay for. The transfer is terrible. Every dark scene, and there are many dark scenes, is flooded with grain. It really spoiled my enjoyment of a first class piece of entertainment. The writing, acting and special effects are all top notch. There are truly scary moments, funny moments and it is littered with references to my favourite films. I have never wanted to return a disc to Amazon until now.

You should watch this series knowing that these first 6 episodes are all you are going to get. But you should watch it. The seasons story arc does come to a conclusion, so you're not left completely in the open, but there are so many more things I want to see and find out about that could of been a second or third season. I guess that's a good thing.
This is solid UK drama, with a horror and sci-fi twist, but I've shown it to people who don't usually enjoy those genre and they've been hooked.
It's clear from how deliberate the pacing is that they thought they were going to get more than these 6 episodes, but by the midway point it has been unleashed. The acting is very good, the characters strongly defined, the effects are well done and the story and concept are top notch.
It's a real shame this was dropped for 'Being Human', as this is precisely the type of unique, innovative drama the UK and BBC3 used to be so good at producing.
This was a missed opportunity for the station, but what they did produce is very well worth your time.

I'm always a fan of the horror/fantasy genre, and The Fades has been a real treat to keep me going while Being Human Series 4 is in production. I enjoyed it from Episode 1, despite the fact that some people seemed to think the start was bad and only got better later. If you're among the latter, stick at it! It really builds momentum.

The Fades is visceral, blunt and compelling. Its comedy sits more comfortably alongside its horror elements than you might expect, and the characters are easy to get attached to (warning: this series comes with a high body count). There is little fixation with SFX (when it's used, it's sometimes a bit ropey, but you can't have everything), and a lot more gore. The whole thing is a really tight production: the right pacing; a great script; tense, climatic scenes. Let's hope the BBC decides to commission a second series and, if they do, to put it on BBC 1 or 2. This kind of thing could garner a huge fan following.

One thing though: are the BBC joking when they say the release date for this DVD is December 26th? The day after Christmas? After everyone's had their presents? Do they WANT to make money?

Bonne petite série SF, dommage qu’il n’y ait qu’une seule saison... en revanche pas de sous-titres en Français, bref l’idéal pour bosser son anglais

A must watch !!! Ghosts, Zombies, Angels, good vs. evil. The Fades are people who have passed away but have not accended to Heaven yet. The only people who can see them are Angelics. Extraordinary people with healing powers and insight to the after life.

Bonne série britannique qui fait peur, juste comme il faut, avec toujours ce soupçon d’humour pour détendre l’atmosphère.
Et quel bonheur de voir Tom Ellis dans un rôle différent. Quel talent !
