The best part of the book is when he implies that Pope John Paul II preaches a "false gospel" and "proves" the implied claim with a cite of the Pope quoting the Bible. Hilarious!

Some hard to find facts that were presented concisely. I recommend this for questions about the Catholic belief system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource! 24 Sept. 2013
By AmazonJack - Published on Amazon.com

Great for such brief sections. I would definitely recommend! The authors pin-point the essence of the Catholic Church, in a fair and historical way. They also summarize the sacraments in a way somebody unfamiliar would understand.

1.0 out of 5 stars The OPINIONS 8 Aug. 2013
By Dan Grubbs - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase
The title of this book is extremely misleading! The authors start out by saying that the book has 2 goals. One to educate non Catholics and two to further reveal what the church teaches to those already in the church. In the authors' mind this is probably true, but their goal is to make people think the church is something that it is not and ultimately turn people away from the Catholic Church. They take partial facts and spin them to make a positive seem like a negative. I recently joined the church after 23 years as a Protestant. (I'm 24) I've done additional research after reading the authors points and every time I'm able to find a big piece of information that the authors conveniently failed to add. Sad! 100,000 copies of false ideas and opinions sold and labeled as fact. Big thumbs down for me. I learned nothing fully truthful from the book.

This was the Catholic doctrine at its best. It was not for me. I could it biased and short sighted.

1.0 out of 5 stars like nothing momentous ever happened between those years 1 July 2015
By Angelika - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I'm deeply saddened, if not sickened, by anyone who shoots their mouth off under the guise of being formally educated on what he claims to know about Church history or doctrine. Apparently Mr (I dare not call him 'reverend', even in small print) Ankerberg's rants against anything outside his own religious denomination. It's doubtful if he's ever stepped inside a Catholic church or attended a Mass, when all he needs is secondhand information from a few disgruntled ex-Catholics to explain how and what the Catholic church teaches. He pays little attention to what happened before Luther's church reformation movement and after the Ascension of Christ...like nothing momentous ever happened between those years. All he does is ruthlessly attack and gripe how wrong Catholics and Orthodox CHRISTIANS have been deceived. If he knows so much about church history and doctrine, he never got around to reading writings from the Early Church Fathers, or other valued documents that we as CHRISTIANS treasure as priceless and good reading, even for this generation.
Jesus said, "If your neighbor has a speck in his eye, chances are you have even a greater speck in your eye and therefore must be removed before you worry over the speck in that of your neighbor's." I wish Mr. Ankerberg and others like him would consider taking the time out to look at their inner flaws before making a rapid rush to judgment before God (as he may see God) may ask to take into account of his misdeeds which he may construe as doing good deeds. I'll admit as a Catholic/Orthodox and a CHRISTIAN, we may not be the perfect denomination, but we strive to be as Jesus commands us to be perfect as God is perfect. St. Paul tells us also not to counter evil with evil, but counter evil by doing good. In so doing, I pray for those otherwise misguided souls turn themselves over to the mercy of a loving and kind God and not be taken in by deceitful slander and lies by so-called 'self-righteous' individuals under a cloak of righteousness. Unfortunately, people like Mr. Ankerberg, Mr. Swaggart and their ilk continue to spew out their hateful agendas on something that is not only far greater than they, but obviously by something they cannot obviously understand or dare to comprehend. May God pity such people and those who follow them!
