Product description

Review

"Face Value, very different in theme to his first book, once again proves Andrew to be a versatile and gifted writer who delivers books that hold readers from beginning to end. With very well-constructed plots, Andrew delivers adrenalin and excitement laced with imaginative, innovative technology with memorable characters who provide heart and substance to his work." (Elaine Fry - The West Australian)

About the Author

Ian Andrew grew up in the coastal town of Larne, Northern Ireland. He left to join the Royal Air Force at age 18 and worked initially as an aircraft technician before being commissioned as an Intelligence Officer. After serving for two decades he relocated, with his Australian wife, to the rural South West of Western Australia. Surrounded by a resident mob of kangaroos, he is currently working on the next novel in the Wright & Tran series of detective stories.

I do not often read thrillers but a lot of this book was set in familiar places to me and my curiosity was piqued. I am glad it was. The opening scene (no spoilers here!) tells you that you are not reading a book that ploughs through familiar thriller territory but is keen to keep the reader on his or her toes throughout. However, as we get involved in the PI case, and separately the police investigation, Andrew writes with such assurance and knowledge of the world in which our characters are based, we know that we are in safe hands. Which all adds up to a very enjoyable read. Plus, I shall not see the streets of my town the same way again.

This has been an amazing book to read. There have been other guesses as to how Nazi Germany could prevail and be fought but this is now my favourite! At first I thought that there was no way I could introduce my wife to this book but the last fifty pages have changed my mind. The author has had a revelation, that's about the best way I can put it.

Readers’ Comments
‘The cover’s awful but the story is fab! Two strong female characters and a fantastic PI storyline. The style is also good and the author works hard to keep up the pace. A satisfactory ending too.’ Male reader, aged 43
‘This is rather a dark thriller but, for the most part, is pretty page-turning stuff. Excellent light read and populated by characters of often surprising depth. When I saw the cover I thought it was a book about fashion models.’ Female reader, aged 33
‘This author has excellent writing skills. Yes, parts of the plots felt a bit silly but I liked the two strong female leads and I liked the way they met the problems facing them. The title is very apt and the writing style which is not overly descriptive (thankfully) works well for a novel of this genre. The cover illustration would look excellent on a lipstick and makeup magazine! What was he thinking??!’ Male reader, aged 58

‘An exciting and unpredictable thriller. A Red Ribbon Winner and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it easy to follow and hard to put down. You (Ian Andrew)instantly grabbed my attention straight off with Kara killing the mugger and neatly covering up the crime. The introduction of Tien as the techie side kick complimeted the tough guy Kara very well and this set the book up nicely. As the plot unravelled I was never quite sure if there was to be a twist in the tail and that kept me turning the pages. All in all Face Value was an excellent read with a a good balance of technical knowledge and easy prose which made it most enjoyable. I will definitely look out for the other books now that I know about them

Thanks Ian for another gripping read. The flow of the plot kept me reading way beyond what I had intended as I couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what happened to Cara and Tien's clients parents. Girl power prevailed however it's clear that Ian has fallen back to his roots and the intensity of the mission had the details of military precision and I felt I was drawn into the drama and the fear for the wellbeing of Cara and Tien. Well done Ian - can't wait for the Wright & Tran series. I feel this pair could just about cope with anything that will be thrown at them. (Hopefully)
