When you first pick up this book and feel the smooth heavy card cover you just know what is inside is going to be good. Fabulous Surfaces is an exciting book covering some stunning techniques. From very simple layers to more complicated samples, you are led gently through each process clearly and simply. Lynda is a very creative tutor and artist who develops her own techniques and processes and she is generous in the way she shares her knowledge.
The techniques in the book show what can be done with bonded tissue paper and it takes you through the basic materials required to create the samples, from the different types of tissue available to the bonding agents and other exciting products that Lynda uses in her work. Who would have thought that so many beautiful samples could be made from so few products? All the latest textile techniques are covered - Hot foiling, creating texture with Solufleece, the use of dyes and distressing Lutradur and Evolon. You will be amazed at just how much this book covers.
Fabulous Surfaces is beautifully laid out with clear and easy to follow instructions, and lovely rich photographs. Whether you are a just beginning to delve into the textile field or an old hand like myself, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. There is something for everyone and having read it several times now, I have learned some new tricks I can't wait to try.

TOP 50 REVIEWERon 14 December 2011
Here's another great textile inspiration from d4daisy. The cover certainly is alluring, no less the inside of this booklet. Lynda Monk goes to town on surfaces exploring the potential of metallics, rusting, printing, distressing, sculpting and cut-outs. These are surfaces that every textile artist wants to create. It's not a how-to booklet but it does show the techniques, so that you can explore and create your own unique surfaces. The fabulous photography of Michael Wicks is extraordinary in this booklet and shows the details of the work. Suffice it to say that Lynda Monk's work is really worth showcasing. Worth it's weight in gold, but I do think that 40 pages is not enough - I want more. In a word - awesome. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's yarnsandfabrics blog.

Just as it says, some fabulous surfaces to create. Some of the items Lynda creates are just beautiful to look at some are functional and beautiful. You can create works of art just for the sheer joy of making them or create wearable art, journal covers, bags to name a few. Some materials used in the making of items in the book are: bondaweb, tissue paper, transfer foil, kunin felt, dissolvable vilene. Go on treat yourself :-)
