Product Description

CASTELL 9000 - a genuinely classic pencil - was launched by Count Alexander von Faber-Castell in 1905. Its quality and finely graduated degrees of hardness have made it a firm favourite with artists and illustrators. Its lead is fully bonded with the wood surround and is therefore particularly break-resistant. The CASTELL 9000 is available in 16 different degrees of hardness, making it the ideal pencil for all technical and artistic applications.

- The Art Set contains 12 CASTELL 9000 pencils in hardness grades 8B - 2H
- Ideally suited for artistic and high contrast work
- Environmentally safe water-based coating
- Extra break-resistant due to SV bonding
- Available as individual pencils or in various assorted sets

Manufacturer's Description

Faber-Castell's 9000 pencil provides all creative artists with an extensive range of pencils in different grades of hardness for sketching, graphic design and shading work. The "green pencil from Faber", which was already being mentioned with approval by Van Gogh and Goethe, has now become part of everyday life. The 16 different grades of hardness range from a delicate grey hue to a deep graphite black, and offer artists a wide range of possibilities. This art set contains 12 of the softer grades

These are the best pencils i have used, i had ordered these twice, one for myself the other was to be a gift however when they arrived one was a diffrent box, im not sure if they are the same exact pencils or diffrent but i used the newer looking box and they are great for drawing, my 8b is almost at the end now and i have never had any problem when sharpening it like i usually do with other 6 7 8b pencils where it seems to get broke inside these pencils sharpen really well and very dark
they are excellent quality and i use them mostly on watercolour paper and they blend and shade so well
definitely recommend these especially as a gift for any artist they will definitely thank you for it : )

i left a sketch to show how they are, the pic is a bit blurry the pencils do do alot of small details my scanner is broke at the moment unfortunately so had to take a quick phone photo but you can see you dont get the grey look or shiny affect that alot of other pencils give

I have used Derwent Graphite pencils for years and have never found any to be as good, I have this set and some 2mm clutch pencils from Faber with their leads and they are not bad for rough quick sketches, but when it comes to my professional fine art graphite work they cannot match Derwent for laydown quality and more importantly clean blending, If you use a paper stump to blend with and blend in the direction of the pencil marks you will leave some texture, but If you blend 90% accross the the direction of the pencil marks then you should get a very smooth finish with no grain ( great for doing smooth skin on a portrait) they do blend better than other pencils, they just can't match Derwent. So if this is important to you then I reccomend passing on these and going for the Derwent 24 9h to 9b set Derwent Graphic Pencils 24 SET, once you use them you will never buy any others. Now I just wish I could convince Derwent to put out It's range in lead only format for my clutch pencils. Happy drawing...Boshy.

Pencils are just brilliant the lead just glides across the paper. The soft and hard easily blend together, half the time I don't need to use my stump. I hope these pencils don't dissappear because they've got a customer for life.

I was interested in drawing the human figure and wondered which would be the best tool to help me draw. There are a variety of drawing tools to choose from, from Pencils to Pens and Markers and they are equally as good as each other but for me a good quality pencil makes all the difference and Faber Castell 9000 Art Set was an excelllent choice. The set offers a choice of grades from 8B-H and B-2H which help with shading from light grey to intense black.
A good choice for any budding artist.

a good range of pencils made by one of the best suppliers. the pencils come in a good range from 2h to 8b definitely the pencils for all kinds of art work. they can be sharpened too a fine point without the fear of them breaking. hese are extremely good quality and its also useful for them to be in their own tin. as I am a graphite artist I absolutely love these pencils for drawing they blend well with a blending stump, chamois, tissue, even cotton bus, they also don't seem to have the shine when you go really dark which is a good thing. I would definaely recommend them

I've tried so many graphite pencils and never been fully happy with them. These were spot on. No complaints. I use only these pencils now.

I have had trouble with cheaper drawing pencils that break on sharpening or refuse to come to a sharp point. These, so far have been excellent. They were recommended by my art teacher and I don't think she has a financial interest in the company so I followed her advice and am very pleased I did. Now all I need is a pencil that will improve my drawing skills....
