Doesn't work at all

Well I bought this a few months ago for converting all those old cassettes that have been taking up space in the back of the cupboard..

Unfortunately due to other demands on my time, I didn't have a chance to use it until last weekend... WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Tried it on my Mac and apart from the fact that the software comes on a mini disc and had to be copied via my Windows laptop, the Mac wouldn't detect the little tape player at all!

So I tried it out on the Windows laptop.. BUT... Although I heard an audible signal suggesting that it had been detected and a 'dowloading drivers' msg appeared; It still didn't show up on the laptop even when I checked all connected hardware. The tape audio output wasn't detectable either; I checked all the input sound hardware to find out. (All this after over an hour of fiddling... Arrgghh!)

It's now far to late to return this now useless piece of plastic so I put it down to experience and thought I'd try a different make, and ordered the following from AMAZON ION TAPE EXPRESS TAPE-TO-MP3 USB RECORDER When it arrived earlier today my heart sank... same box just different company logo.. AND same little tape player (with different plastic bits stuck on!) Oo-er... Then I had to download the (different) software from the company website as, though it stated that the enclosed CD had the MAC version on it... it didn't!!! (Why am I not surprised?) Anyway... long story short... This one worked IMMEDIATELY on both the iMac AND the Windows laptop and the quality is pretty good too! So... avoid the FUTURSTIX version and go straight for the ION!!! (similar prices same gadget but the latter one actually works!!)

It's true that the latter uses software which piggybacks on iTunes as other reviewers state, but if you 'GET INFO' for the track (right click it) you can find out where iTunes has saved it and copy/move/convert it as you wish!!

ps In case you're wondering.. Yes, I did try the Futuristix version with the new software for the Ion.... NO, it STILL didn't work!!!

The unit is cheap looking and when playing tapes through earphones, you can hear the motor humming. I loaded the software supplied, but it wouldn't recognise the device. I, like some other people was told to use Audacity. Well, if you ask me, that is an audacity! I bought this item because of the so-called ease of use with a USB connection and bundled software.
Why should I then use someone else's software and through an audio link, not a USB?
I already had a perfectly good walkman that I could have used in this way. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a refund from the supplier, but of course, I had the inconvenience of having to parcel it all up and return it. And exchange several e-mails with the supplier.

PURE AND UTTER RUBBISH!

What a waste of time this is, loaded in to my Vista laptop and nothing, the driver was not recognized, the manual is useless no FAQ's not support help and I did not want to waste my time unlike some others who have had to contact support for help. When a product is sold it should be sold as "fit and proper" for sale and should do what it says it does!

As customers we should not need to hunt around forums etc to find out how things work! Sending this back is now a pain, even getting to the Post Office to send back what I think is pure and utter rubbish! Does not even work, for me to make any constructive comments for other users, for this I am very sorry!

Useless software/device

I bought this item in 2010.

Back then I had a computer which ran Vista and I had to use my headphones in order to hear what I was recording and the sound recorder on the pc as the included software did not work.

Today I have plugged in the device to my brand new computer which I bought New Year's Eve and I still can't get any sound out. Again I have used the sound recorder as the software does not work on my new computer either.

I assume I have to buy a microphone in order to hear anything?

A very light-weight machine. It was easy to set up and connect with Audacity software. However, it was unable to play cassettes without bad wow and flutter - cassettes which would play OK in another machine. Could not really recommend.

I had to return the first cassette player, sound quality was very poor. The second player arrived, sound was better but what lets this player down is the software used is a freebee. Although very good, it does not enable you to filter unwanted sound from the recording.
