Great value and for charity.

As a late arrival to the TV series (only started watching series one when series two had already started), but one who very much enjoyed it I was glad to get the chance to see the 'live' performance without having to sell a body part or make a deal with the devil to get the nigh on impossible 'real' tickets.
Its a fascinating watch - for the writing and the performance first and foremost, but also to compare it to the tv serie - to see which of the original ideas were taken and transposed into a full cast situation. If some of the 'shock' of the narrative is lost because of familiarity with the tv version (and as I say, I am in no way saying I was 'in before it was popular') it is intriguing to see how it is handled in a one person performance and in a more 'theatrical' style. Definitely recommended for fans of the show and the performer.

Where it all began

I paid £4 to see this on Amazon video which I think is the same version that aired in cinemas as part of National Theatre live. I absolutely LOVE Fleabag especially series 2 so it is interesting to see the origins. Something that kind of stood out for me was that as it was a theatre performance, Fleabag’s addresses to us, the audience, are obviously delivered in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s actor voice! The style is better suited to tv in my opinion, where we feel she is talking to us, although obviously this is where it did actually begin. There are some of the same beats as the tv series but also a few differences - the ending is a bit grimmer - but if you’re a Fleabag fan as I am, you will want to see this. On balance I do think tv is the best medium for Fleabag but I’m glad I watched and am happy the proceeds are going towards keeping the theatres alive.

The play came first... And boy what a play

Beautifully executed hilarious show. Such power and talent with such minimal stagecraft.

I cried and I laughed in equal measure. Rented it 4/5 times during the last run

To all those saying it's a rehash of the series you really need to get your facts straight. This show is s recent performance of the one woman show that launched at the Edinburgh fringe and is the reason that fleabag the series got made.

Disappointing

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the two seasons of Fleabag on TV, with the first season being better than the second for me as I found the long, drawn-out issue of the affair with the priest a bit tedious. But, generally, I found the show creative and entertaining, with great writing and great delivery by the actors, especially the lead role.

So, I was greatly looking forward to the live show.

Unfortunately, it was mostly a re-run / re-hash of the material from the TV show, but delivered solo without the spark of bouncing it off the other characters being described. The result fell flat for me, especially as the performer seemed set on delivering the material as a kind of stern lecture devoid of humour. Or maybe the humour was in the stern delivery itself? At any rate, it passed me by.

I started to think of Miranda Hart. She came up with a very imaginative sitcom but then was revealed to only have a limited number of original jokes and routines which she kept recycling in both the TV show and subsequent live stage performances.

I hope Phoebe Waller-Bridge doesn't end up following a similar trajectory.

Not bad...not bad at all

Great one man show. But i'd say the 2 seasons of the TV series are better still. If you're interested in the TV series, id recommend watching that first and then coming back to this afterwards because it does give away some of the plot points across the 1st season. Either way, still an epic performance by Ms Waller-Bridge here - we're in the presence of geniuses.

Just Brilliant

Tried to get tickets for this and couldn't, so delighted to get the opportunity to finally see it. Fantastic writing and acting; moving, funny, rich and fast paced. The play uses some interesting devices to keep the focus, a slightly different narrative arc and (dare I say it) is in some ways better than the TV show. The unrelenting focus allows the depth of character to shine, PWB carries the weight of expectation lightly and with style. If you haven't watched the TV show start here, and if you have then this will satisfy your urge for more by taking you back to the start. Enjoy.

Amazing! (but redundant)

Phoebe is an absolute genius and you must see Fleabag the series! This performance is the original piece that got the show commissioned so it's (unfortunately) almost a quote-for-quote replica. I'd recommend the series instead but do chip in for a good cause!

Great entertainment, proceeds to charity

Excellent viewing for any fans of the TV show, this National Theatre production of Fleabag is both entertaining and creative. It’s a great way to safely experience the live show during the COVID pandemic while supporting charities at the same time via the proceeds of the purchase. It’s interesting to see how some of the ideas for the TV show came from the live performance, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge doesn’t fail to deliver an engaging and funny performance.
