Volume 1 mixes in a varied smattering of crime drama, humour and romance as well as being eye-catchingly beautiful in terms of art. We follow the investigations of Ryo and Dee into murder and mania-and each other! Bikky and Carol also appear to truly anchor Fake's plot. By the end of the book, I can guarantee that you will love all of them-well I can't imagine anybody not being amused by JJ-and will be dying to watch how the relationship between Ryo and Dee (and Carol and Bikky) progresses.
So in short, unless you're really anti-yaoi, go for this manga. It will not disappoint!
And then theres the relation between the two main chars. Their situation is so blended, so smooth and slow it grows throught the series, that you will end up believing each and every reaction of the naive main character Ryo "What the hell is going on with me! Why do I feel like this?"
I give 5 stars to this manga series for its art, plot and characters being so damn good. As a small note, I'm a manga reader that likes action, drama, shoujo, shounen ai, and dislikes yaoi and hentai.
Fake is brilliant! It is such an beautiful combination of cop drama and romance/comedy. Dont think for a second that you get some soppy love story. The characters are engaging and dynamic, and with such fast paced action, you cant help but love them. The romance is beautiful because I really think that the appeal lies in the fact that the characters are very equal, strong and independant men, which makes a change from the usual couples you find across shoenen-ai. I'd well recommend it to anyone. If you're not into man+man it doesnt matter, give it a chance because the storylines keep you so involved. Plus, you cant help but enjoy the Bikky Vs.Dee relations. High drama and comedy, intertwined with a beautiful romance. Top notch!
Sanami Matoh's stunning work of BL (boy's love) manga has been popular both in and out of Japan for years now. It's spawned a fandom that's both large and utterly devoted, and it's easy to see why.
At first glance the storyline may strike as a little trite. This is far from the case. Ryo and Dee are characters with a lot of depth, and are both totally lovable. The indvidual plots of each case the detectives work on make for interesting reading alone, but throw in the tangled and tentative love interest between the two men and this work springs to something even better. There's everything a reader could hope for: drama, suspence, comedy, angst, and of course, romance.
Obviously the genre means this manga will appeal mostly to women, but the action and pace means it can be one for the boys too. A stunning read, with gorgeous artwork that makes a change from the more feminine styles associated with yaoi mangas. If you're already a fan of yaoi works, this is not one to miss.
I'm already counting down for the next six books. I only hope to see more of this kind of work in the future.
