A newspaper article led me to this autobiography.

Scott was the T.V face of `Look' to me as a child and 3 of his prints (ubiquitous in the 60's) hung on my wall.

This book is Peter Scott's story in his own words.

He was privileged, had to cope with living his life in the shadow his famous father (R.F). He writes of his childhood, Barrie, distinguished war career, achievements as a British glider champion, Olympic bronze success (for sailing), life as a painter, his concern for the environment and most especially his love of birds and the setting up of the Wildfowl and Wetlands trust here in Gloucestershire (one of 9 locations now I understand).

It's very much of its time, but if you want to read about a driven, responsible, inspirational and truly Renaissance man of the 20th century, then read this.

I owned a copy of this book in the mid 70s but unfortunately someone borrowed it and it was never returned. I thought I would replace it after all these years and managed to find a copy at Amazon. I particularly wanted one with the same dust-cover as my original copy as it is a great illustration of the authors work, and so selected a seller who appeared to have a suitable copy. Unfortunately, to my disappointment, my order arrived minus the cover. I contacted the seller who informed me that I had misunderstood the Amazon product description. This was entirely my own fault and the seller was gracious enough explain the issue and make a refund to me.

It just goes to show that even if things do occasionally go wrong when buying on-line, one can have the confidence to know that Amazon and its partners will do their best to put matters right for their customers. My thanks go to all those concerned in this matter.

The book is interesting. I didn't much care for the hunting and shooting of wild geese but it was an important part in the development of Peter Scott's career. I enjoyed the part he played in the second world war and the setting up of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

Peter Scott is one of my heros. Initially a water fowler and then a painter and bird conservation expert. He was a great sailor and pilot of gliders / sailplanes.
