This was the only Bob Welch solo album which had not been released on CD yet. (A supposed Japan-only release from years back was never confirmed.) When I heard of his sudden suicide a few weeks ago, it prompted me to see if had been released since the last time I checked for it. It had, but not as a result of his death, it should be said. Not only did I buy it to complete my collection (and get rid of another slab of vinyl), but to pay tribute to a great talent. It's probably his weakest solo release, but no matter. He has written so many great songs over the years, (including whilst in the much overlooked band Paris), that I will definitely miss his output. R.I.P.

HASH(0x98920978) out of 5 stars Good melodic, hook filled songs mired in 80's production--still interesting for Welch fans 21 Mar. 2013
By Wayne Klein - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The main flaw with Bob Welch's "Eye Contact" is the dated production and wash of sythesizers that producer/guitarist Jeff Baxter applies to the material. The songs largely written by Welch are melodic and inviting with strong hooks. If you can get past the period production touches, the songs by Welch are quite good.

There's plenty of good guitar solos with Welch and Baxter plucking the strings. The backing vocals are often lush and nicely arranged featuring Beach Boys Carl Wilson and Al Jardine.

The reissue by Wounded Bird sounds pretty good--there's no noticeable tweaking of the music here and it appears that this is a straight forward presentation of what the album should sound like.

The album includes three bonus tracks--the single version of "I'll Dance Alone" and two versions of Welch's "Fever"--the single remix and the 12 inch version.

HASH(0x987c99a8) out of 5 stars Ride The Welch Wave 8 Aug. 2012

The harsh criticism this album has received is a bit baffling to me. True, it smacks of the 1980's with synths and drum machine runs aplenty (which some would find just dandy). Still, it is a wonderful Bob Welch effort through and through. Clever, cunning, intelligent, melodic, artful and fun. New Wave Rock? Ride the Welch Wave. Fleetwood Mac and Bob Welch afficianados, be unafraid!
HASH(0x990906e4) out of 5 stars Bob Welch's Best Solo Album 27 May 2016
By Dan Meek - Published on Amazon.com

This is probably Bob Welch's best solo album, certainly better than Man Overboard or The Other One. I am amazed that I did not know about it for over 30 years.

HASH(0x986b8f9c) out of 5 stars For Diehards Only 22 Jun. 2012

By this point Welch's muse had clearly deserted him. The songwriting is weak and the 80's production touches (lots of synths and drum machine) sound horribly dated. An entirely forgettable release, and the final pop album of Welch's recording career. That's a shame.
