Follow up to the original children's animated TV series 'The Real Ghostbusters', set some years later after a dip in paranormal activity has led to the original characters leaving to pursue new careers. When strange things begin to happen again, original ghostbuster Egon Spengler recruits a new team of younger university level ghostbusters and together they battle the supernatural beings throughout New York City and beyond.

The series takes place after the two "Ghostbusters" films and "The Real Ghostbusters" animated series that came before it. Egon Spengler is now teaching about the paranormal at university, with Ghostbusters having shut down due to a lack of calls. To make matters worse, Spengler has only four students in his entire class - wheelchair-bound thrill-seeker Garrett, the Latino cynic Eduardo, the studious goth Kylie, and the kind-hearted if socially-inept Roland. Despite appearances, the four students work surprisingly well together, which is all for the good, because, as the first episode shows, a new wave of ghosts have been unleashed in New York City thanks to the construction of a new subway tunnel, and with Egon too old to fight, he must look to his students to carry on the battle against the malevolent spirits terrorising the city.
The series has a great amount of appeal thanks to its mixture of comedy and horror, the same mixture that propelled the original films to fame in the 1980's. The horror element is provided by the "ghost of the week" formula, with each spirit deliberately made to appear unpleasant and disturbing, whilst the comedy is provided either by the gang's interaction with one another or, more frequently, by Slimer, the green ghost from the original films who now acts like the Ghostbuster's pet and provides a great deal of comic relief to the audience.
This series is an excellent addition to the "Ghostbusters" franchise, and I strongly urge as many people as possible to watch this show.
