Extra Select Sunflower Hearts these are bakery grade kernels produced from black oil sunflower seeds. This means they are from the sunflower which contains the highest levels of oil and therefore energy rather than the confectionery grade hearts which are mainly taken from medium and large striped sunflower seeds.
Our sunflower hearts are also put through a sortex machine which uses lasers to colour detect any black husk still remaining, producing a uniform and totally husk free sample.
We use these same excellent sunflower hearts in our blends, we don’t substitute lower grades in any way.
Best fed from feeder or wild bird table.
Complementary food for wild birds may contain nuts.
Not intended for human consumption.
Store in a cool. dry place below 14%.

Yes the birds loved these black sunflower seeds but the 12.75 kg bag contained bits of wood (see my photograph). About every handful I found a piece of wood. I'm wondering if the many pieces of wood that I found in the bag where included in the weight of 12.75 kg, if so then this product isn't worth the price.
The picture with my hand shows the amount of wood collected when filling one standard size cylindrical bird feeder!
Update: March 2018. ALSO, birds will not eat Standard Mixed Seeds 20 kg.
I thought I’d try the standard mixed seeds this time. Big mistake. As I have already bought from here before I wasn’t able to write a separate review so I attached one on the end of this older review.
I am not sure who is at fault here. The seeds are advertised as food for wild birds but the wild birds that come to my garden refuse to eat them. But whose fault is it? The company selling the seeds, or are the wild birds being too fussy? Though they do pick out the very, very few black sunflower seeds from the mix, but they leave everything else. I had really hoped that the birds would eat these seeds because I have a vast amount of various wild birds visiting my garden and it costs a lot of money to feed them all and as this bag seemed very reasonably priced I thought it could help me out financially. During this cold weather the birds left the seeds and even the squirrels did not eat them. I could give a very long list of the various wild birds that visit my garden, I would have thought that some if not all of them would have eaten these seeds, but they didn’t. I am now left with a big bag of seeds which none of the wild animals are interested in eating. I purchased a 20 kg bag of presumed mixed seeds for wild birds but the birds will not eat them, so who is at fault here? The company for selling seeds that birds don’t like? Or are my birds just fussy?
Have tried a few bags now to see if it was a case of them getting used to it or if there was something about this particular feed. There's a good variety of birds that take the other seed mixes I use so though more expensive I will be getting those in future instead.
The most disturbing thing though is that when I opened the last sack it was fully infested with tiny beetles that seemed to sense the bag was open and climb towards the opening. I keep the feed inside but was lucky enough to have put the sack in a sealed container, otherwise they'd have been right through the house.
I decided to use the millet in a seed tray and the rest of the tub I am chucking in a food processor with peanut oil and some water and will use it similar to a fat block, who knows if they will eat it but I wasn't going to waste that much seed. The 2 photos show the results
I have put this mix in my bird feeders and it is attracting a variety of birds including Sparrows, Robins , Blue tits , Starlings, and Squirrels !
I still have issues with seeds being discarded from the feeders but then the larger birds such as Collar Doves and Pigeons are constantly in residence to hoover it up off the lawn and the Ground Feeder Tray that I have placed underneath the seed feeder.
The birds love it with the added bonus that it can be used all the year round !
It stores well because it is in a plastic sack rather than some of the cheaper food which comes in paper sacks and has to be stored carefully to stop it becoming damp.
