This is an excellent and useful guide to various technical topics; as such, the book guides your thinking and informs you, rather than instructs or explains. This is important, there is a distinction, and if you were looking for an in-depth, step by step instruction procedural manual, this isn't it. If like me, you are irritated by supercilious sales staff whose clear intentions are to make you feel small when you ask simple questions - this book succeeds in being informative about what you may feel are 'silly questions'. Such questions are, of course, essential, but we never ask them. Buy the book and you won't need to.

5.0 out of 5 stars a "must" for beginners 15 Sept. 2014
By christine swinson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
My husband and I are very low-tech. We've bought all sorts of computer books and constantly quiz our tech guys about how things work, but we never seem to really get it. Fortunately I recently discovered this ebook, as well as the second one in the series. I bought both. I've finished this first one (except for the section on home theater, which doesn't much interest me), and, I have to tell you, I now genuinely understand. You can't imagine what a boost/boon this is to my everyday life. I now feel like I can hold my own with this constantly changing stuff called "technology".

I strongly recommend this very clearly-written little book to all beginners.

Note to author: Please continue with this series. These books are much needed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful. 19 Jan. 2013

Bought this on the spur of the moment, after hearing it mentioned in a blog that I follow. I am upgrading the entertainment system in my RV, and thought it would be helpful in determining which components I needed to look for and also to speaking with the sales people and the installers. (I am certainly NOT capable of putting all this stuff together myself!) It was pretty simplistic, but that also made it very easy for a novice to understand and for me to wrap my tongue around some of the lingo. Exactly what I was looking for, and certainly helpful for my particular need.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Godsend 28 Jun. 2013

It's not for pros, or even the proficient, but if you're like me and need to get your 12 year old to solve your tech problems, this book is for you. Clear, precise explanations of all sorts of tech problems. You'll probably even learn how to figure out how to solve problems on your own after you read this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of good information 22 Dec. 2012
By Nick Russell - Published on Amazon.com

Morris shares a lot of very good information in this handy guide, written in a manner that even a certified non-techie like me can understand. Thanks for clearing away the fog to I can understand all that these tech toys of mine are capable of and how to use them.
