"Expert MySQL" is not written for the person who wants to install and use MySQL binaries. It won't tell you how to set up a PHP/MySQL web page. However, if you already know how to do install and use MySQL binaries and want to dig into the source code this is book is a great place to start. You can learn how to write and debug storage engines and plugins, build embedded applications and optimize queries. It will help to come to the book with some experience in compiling and modifying source code and some previous exposure to databases, especially database theory.
