Product Description

Product Description

NEWLY REMASTERED OFFICIAL RELEASE OF THIS CLASSIC DEBUT ALBUM BY THE WELSH ROCK BAND FROM 1973 WITH TWO RARE BONUS TRACKS REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL POLYDOR MASTER TAPES BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & LINER NOTES. Formed in South Wales in 1970, the band signed to George Martin’s AIR Productions in 1972 with a line-up of TERRY BENNETT (Vocals), DAI SHELL (Lead Guitar), RALPH EVANS (Lead Guitar), RICKY JOHN HOLT (Bass) and CONGO JONES (Drums). Utilising to great effect the twin lead guitar approach of Dai Shell and Ralph Evans, Sassafras released their debut album on Polydor Records in 1973. One of the great unsung rock albums of the early 1970s, “Expecting Company” has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and includes both sides of a rare single as bonus tracks. This Esoteric Recordings reissue restores the original album artwork.

Now here's a sweetheart. I remember a pal of mine in Dublin who was Wishbone Ash mad at the time and was pigging out on "Argus" and "Pilgrimage" on an almost daily basis. It didn’t take him long to discover the twin lead guitars of Cardiff's SASSAFRAS who came on like a combo of Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash – a mix I’ll take any day of the week. I never thought I’d see their brill 1973 debut on CD and you have to say that Esoteric Recordings of the UK (part of Cherry Red) have done a bang up job with it. Great audio from original tapes, interviews with Lead Guitarist Dai Shell, repro of the original and distinctive Ian Murray gatefold artwork, period photos etc - very tasty. Here are the beans and things...

I only came across Sassafras as one of their members drinks in my local - never really taken any notice until this CD was rereleased and I've had it in the car for a few days now. Really impressed - Country meets Rock meets the 70's.

One of my favourite albums of all time - I saw Sassafras live in Brum in the early 70's and loved this album. My venial copy was well worn out and Ive been waiting for this to be reissued for years. A really fine album

Fantastic album, from one of the best guitar oriented rock bands to come out of the South Wales Valley's. Remember hearing this on vinyl in the early 70's and was pleasantly surprised to see it had been re-issued, even more surprised to find out they'd reformed and were touring. Now looking forward to seeing them the next time they venture up to the frozen wastes of South Cumbria!

Ordered Thursday, arrived Saturday. An excellent CD which now replaces my well worn vinyl, plus the added feature of 2 bonus tracks on the CD.
A superb band which were very popular on the college circuit. Fantastic music to listen to.

As an aside, i played it in the car today and my teenage son remarked what superb music to listen to ... he was well surprised when i told him it was 40 years old!

Thank you for great service.
