Let’s face it, there’s not much that’ll hang from a plasterboard wall without being too heavy. I’ve tried many rawl plugs and bolts over the years with varying degrees of success, and a fair share of failures.
That was until these Expandette Rosetts came into my life.
Honestly, it is worth paying that little more for the finish they give, you’ll never look back.
They come with a set of very good instructions. Also, one set (the phillips screwhead) of screws is slightly longer. The other set are the ‘6 star screwhead’ (forgive my explanation, I’m a diyer not a pro). So if using the shorter, make sure you have a suitable screwdriver.
Yes, using a 10mm drill bit does seem a little extreme, but believe me, it works.
(For info:- try using a smaller drill bit at first as a guide hole)
Then, follow the instructions exactly, you can’t go wrong, they’re so simple, and voila, you’ll definitely be impressed with the finish.
Just remember, they’re long screws, so don’t give up half way, they DO tighten!!
Honestly, as I was, you’ll be amazed at the finish. Hand on heart, nothing will be falling off the walls.
I even made myself a 2” thick floating shelf out of solid wood, it’s a solid and fairly heavy shelf, yet I’ve only needed 2 of the Expandette Rosetts to fit it firmly to the plasterboard wall. It’s such a firm fit I feel like I could sit on it, tho obviously won’t be.
I also feel, especially after making my own wood shelves, and the other shelves I’ve put up are from a custom glass cutter, so sourced my own fixtures and fittings, that the Expandette Rosetts give a most professional finish to the shelves, they may be hidden, but to me, they’re an integral part of the whole presentation.
The only drawback.... they don’t make them in other sizes as I’d love to use these on smaller applications.
Genuinely, I’m a very happy bunny now I’ve found these and do hope that they become a ‘norm’ for plasterboard walls in the future. Also, that they come in at least a couple of different sizes.
