If, like me, you have a short attention span and prefer to make decisions while things are happening you will appreciate why many business owners make a mess of the last big part of their career, selling up. To do the job properly takes time, in our case three years from making the decision to finally walking away. During those three years we made a lot of mistakes and went through a meteoric learning curve.
This book is not a record of the sale of our business. Instead it is my views, based on personal experience, of what is involved in selling a company. I do not pretend Exit Strategy is a textbook. Others far more qualified than me have already written mighty tomes on the subject and these are available to the scholars and academics for debate. The audience I have written for are those of us who are involved in owning and building businesses; people that get on and do things, the backbone of UK Plc.
If, as you read this book, you learn something that helps you sell your business successfully I will be pleased. I hope you enjoy the read. I certainly enjoyed writing it.
