From the Author
A history of English fascism and anti-fascism c.1920s-40s.
In Excited Times is a history of fascism and anti-fascism in an industrial region of England over the period 1920s-1940s. It is based on original research, and is one of the few published studies of the causes and dynamics of fascism and anti-fascism in regions outside of London. The book is also extensively illustrated. Although a principal focus is on the North East of England, there are linkages with national and international history, including the United States as well as the Spanish Civil War. The book includes previously 'secret' material drawn from police/MI5 files in the British Public Records Office, and also a regional records office.
