Product Description

180 grams audiophile vinyl / 8 page booklet / 500th Music On Vinyl release!

About the Artist

In this highly anticipated reunion with Brian Eno (Bowie recorded his 'Berlin Trilogy' with Eno), The Long Thin Duke tells us the story of Nathan Adler, as he investigates 'The Ritual Art-Murder of Baby Grace Blue: A Non-Linear Gothic Drama Hyper-Cycle'. It's a dystopian piece, a portrayal of the end of the world, and what better time to re-release it than in the last year of the Mayan calendar? Bowie and Eno recorded the album during improvised sessions, in which Eno would hand out flashcards as a guiding light. But the light was always distorted, and would for example ask the musicians to imagine they were 'the disgruntled member of a South African Rock band. Play the notes that were suppressed'. The original 1995 release had a very limited vinyl run, and because of that this has always been a very much sought after album. Music On Vinyl is doubly proud that this is their 500th release, it also contains a beautiful 8-page booklet filled with notes from Nathan Adler's diary…

......that is absolutely BRILLIANT. This IS why it was a good idea to have never stuck with the Ziggy Stardust formula for the rest of time, that so many stuck-in-the-past old school Bowie fans still crave and expect, from this shape-shifting musical chameleon, with every new album to this very day.

This is Bowie's most experimental, creative and controversial album ever, and it is still dividing fans and maybe just the odd, critic 20 years on. The occasional, narration from the characters - Bowie adopting a distinctive and very convincing accent for each - is often jarring for fans', but I think its incredibly clever, showing yet another impressive side to his creative abilities, and should be taken with a pinch of salt, its meant to be a bit of fun for gawds sake!

Part 1 of 5 albums, sadly the other 4 were never to be. Over 70 hours of improvisations and demo sessions were apparently recorded for this album alone. The art-work was conceived and posed for by Bowie as some of the key characters of this story, his face digitally manipulated and morphed, each time, into someone new, even to the extreme of being covered in raw offal while lying on a gurney.

I very much doubt that we will see this level of creativity from Bowie again. I have heard the 70minuets of leaked outtakes, from these session, and they are even more left-field, but just as confusing to follow story-wise, actually more so. But all great stuff.

The vinyl version; Excerpts from Outside, was original released when vinyl albums were on the wane, so as it is not the full release, like the CD, I passed it over at the time. Regretted it ever since but, now don't have to worry!

Out of all bowies 90's albums, for me Outside, his most unique and original work and Earthling his most dynamically powerful and textured, are 2 albums that deserve a lot more respect and recognition.

Bravo!

This is some rare material to have appeared on vinyl. Chock it up to Music on Vinyl to put this out. It is a welcome addition to the Bowie vinyl titles they are releasing. Do not miss this because if you do someday you will be paying hundreds for this LP.

This is some unique and awesome sounding stuff put together by Bowie and ENO. Check it out you'll be very happy that you did.

The music chameleon at his best. Proving not only his influence on other musicians, but how happily he can be influenced by others. He remains one of rock's best story tellers. This vinyl reissue is beautiful& sounds great.

The vinyl format could be perfect in a double disc version so it can include more tracks. Besides that, you have here one of the most interesting albums of Bowie.
