Barbara says:
Sorbonne Confidential is a brutally funny expose on how France recruits teachers.

I was amazed to discover how potential English teachers are judged on skills that have nothing to do with teaching English (or even speaking it). It seemed like a subtle form of discrimination.
Then, yesterday I read this article in The Times.
"Quizz for state jobs is discriminatory says President Sarkozy"

So now it's official. Exams which select for unrelated skills are a form of discrimination.

This is a great book for really understanding France. It also offers food for thought on teacher training. And it's very funny.

I highly recommend it.
