I put translucent tape over them to tone it down a bit, otherwise a great piece of kit.
It does not auto switch to latest input which is exactly what I wanted, but it may not suit others.
No info in pack for remote battery , I went to Boots and sized a few up , turns out its a cr2032.
When connected up my set-top box worked fine but my Toshiba hd-dvd player ( yes , I have one ) eventually lost all picture and sound . Bypassing the switcher fixed this ,so a switcher problem.
I contacted express pro and asked if a power supply would cure this , if they did one , or would the Neet power adaptor mentioned on the Amazon page for the switcher do .
They said some customers had bought the Neet one and it was fine.
I ordered the Neet adaptor BUT IT DOESN'T FIT ,the plug is too small.
I am in the process of returning the Neet adaptor and have asked Ex-pro what to do now.
They reply quickly enough don't answer all the questions.
I'll update when or if I get the thing working.
Returned the Neet supply , cost £3 in postage which I'm not happy about , and Ex-pro replied stating one of their products Ex-Pro® Worldwide Variable Voltage replacement AC DC Plug in Power supply - Regulated - 3v to 12v -DC 1000mA max current. 6 Popular DC type plus (2 Jack type plugs) 3 / 4.5 / 5 / 6 / 7.5 / 9 / 12V selectable. should do .
I said I thought it was a bit dear but after looking at others , some don't say their regulated or made to standards this one does , I decided to order it so that should be it sorted.
Set voltage to 5v connected up supply power light came on switcher, connected up hdmi cables , Freeview -hd box OK , Hd-dvd player menu flashed up then nothing , reconnected to tv still nothing .HD-DVD player broken . Has had to go to Toshiba repairer who said switcher may have overdrawn hdmi output and Toshiba say there may be no bits ,so maybe unfixable.
Searched online , HDMI spec says 5v at 0.05 amps max , this switcher info sheet says it draws 1 watt at 5v is 0.2 amps . That's quite a bit above the spec.
Expro deny their product is to blame , but the Toshiba was perfect until connected and their agent and the sums say otherwise .
Probably not the only Switcher that draws too much .
Be warned - this device does not auto-switch - but it does it does not claim to.
Switching very reliable with remote, and impact on signal quality is undetectable.
The Ex-Pro switch solves this because you can choose the inputs 'manually' with a remote control (I've used a CR 2032 3V battery which works fine). I read somewhere the Ex-pro switch shouldn't be used with an Apple TV because of the 'always on' situation. That is sound advice so please take notice of it. My Humax, PS3 and Xbox 360 all work perfectly connected to one HDMI port through the Ex-pro switch, and my Apple TV works perfectly through the second HDMI port on my TV. All-in-all, a well built excellent product worthy of 5 stars.
I issue an RMA request to the supplier, they give me a reference number and ask me to return the item, at my cost of £3-4 depending on delivery methods. I think fair enough, it's not great but I suppose I'll end up with a working switch after spending an addition £4. Wrong.
The replacement arrives, it looked to work correctly for 3 days then a different port becomes faulty intermitantly, you can see the fault here https://youtu.be/xvv-3NibWVc
So I contacted the seller again they issued another RMA request, at my cost - that's a total of £8 spent so far on a product costing under £25 to start with. Upon requesting a refund as the device is simply useless, I was instructed by both The seller (ExpressPro) and Amazon that all I could do was perform a chargeback on my card or indeed spend more sending it back again.
Seriously, don't waste your time or money, I took a punt given the previous negative reviews and I've learnt the hard way they were pretty much spot on.
