If you are a beginner runner like myself training for your first marathon this is the book for you. I wanted a book which would cover more than just programs, injurys and diet. I wanted to know more about the machanics of how to run, Which part of my foot should hit the ground first? The correct way to hold your arms? Where should my breathing come from and was it ok to breath through my mouth. Sounds simple enough but had found other marathon books did not cover the above. This book is very easy to follow and is the only book a beginner marathon runner will need.

I found the text nicely written and simple to digest (I'm a novice runner) but I think these days we have become used to illustrations and there are very few included. Sometimes a picture really does paint a thousand words, and I found myself mentally visualising what was being said (eg comparing different foot-strikes etc) when a simple picture would have clarified the exact point being made. All of the advice given is good though, and it achieves the aim of getting you motivated and out there!

This is a good book full of useful info and guidance. it is however, a bit technical and would have very much benefited from diagrams, pictures and graphic info.
