Product Description

Review

A fine achievement. THE CONSORT A fine book. (...) This civilised volume is highly recommended (and) excellent in content. EARLY MUSIC REVIEWThis is an extremely useful addition to music historiography that will both aid students and provide many insights to the more general reader who feels in need of an over-arching survey of the period. GOLDBERG (Brian Robins)A lively and scholarly account of the multiple complexities and paradoxes that characterise this period...compelling reading with hitherto neglected areas at last gaining accessible recognition. EARLY MUSIC TODAY

This is an informative book and well researched. however, he writing style is far form clear...the authors over-inclusive-for-details style means that you cannot as a single paragraph without too many references to other subjects on ether way. coming as I do from a science background, there is a wealth of information here sadly lost in a more of detail. A clearer and logical structure would have made it easier to read as well asa more parsimonious style. Not a book to buy...just get it though your library for the information you need....and that will take you a while to sift it out!
