I have my BT Openreach fibre modem and Sky Hub near the main phone socket - both powered through a UPS. But our main TP-Link wifi/router is in the living room, connected to the Hub by a 12m Cat6 ethernet cable. In the case of a power outage, the BT/Sky boxes would still work, but our laptops would lose internet connectivity anyway because the TP-Link router would go down.

With this Passive PoE kit installed at either end of the 12m cable run, we can locate the 12V power supply/transformer beside the modem/hub, power it directly from the UPS, and then send the 12V DC power down the ethernet cable to power the TP-Link router in the living room!!!
It also provides a side benefit of reducing by one the number of cables in the living room.

I was initially skeptical about the voltage drop - i.e. I thought that the 12m cable run would attenuate the power down to a level where it would not be strong enough to power the TP-Link router. But after checking with a multimeter, I was surprised to see that there was very little voltage drop at all - it remeained stubbornly near 12V.

A simple but effective solution.

Easy wifi router placement in awkward locations

This pair of devices is brilliant and so cost effective. I used mine to move my wifi router from the useless location it was in - due to the nearest mains socket - to a perfect location where there isn't a mains socket.
Just plug one of the devices in the network, switch, modem or computer and the routers power supply into it.
Then run a SINGLE piece of network cable to where you want your wifi router (or whatever), connect the other device to the cable and plug the device into your wifi router/whatever. Voila! You network attached device, powered and where you want it.

They work as described but I ended up getting a poe switch to avoid having many cables through the wall and too many transformers occupying power points and cluttering the place up. A good cost effective option if you want to use wifi and don't mind the transformers and drilling though or if you simply want to put a camera a long way from a power point or your camera isn't poe..

I bought this product in May 2016 and have used it on an ad-hoc basis. Until now (July 2017) it has worked fine. I recently re-purposed it so that I could run a single ethernet cable to an outdoor security camera. The camera stopped working yesterday and upon opening the IP66 box that the camera end of the ethernet cable ran into, I was horrified to smell burning and find the ethernet cable had melted into the POE connector. Thank goodness the connection was outside rather than inside my home. The attached pictures show exactly what I found. Buyer beware!

I wanted to use this some with Linksys LAPN300 (be warned these things are a lot bigger than they look in pictures!) as these support 802.3af PoE. I was hoping to use just the injector part but this didn't work. However, with the splitter as well it worked perfectly. Not quite as neat as I had hoped but does the job as advertised.

I am getting a 100Mb link with this so will do the job well enough. I might try the ones being advertised as 1Gb to see if they give me a better link speed but in the meantime it does the job very well.

Works althought the max-cable lenght appears to be very limited? have tried different cables cat6 - cat5e at dif lenghts but failed to reach my target of 25 meter with a small ipcam before sufferning power problems (Evev tried another know good cam in case? no luck)

A little surprised that this thing actually works, but it does - and you can't argue with the price. You have to be careful where the power/data in and outs are, and I initially made some wrong assumptions - but once worked it out, it functions beautifully. The combined power and data in/outs are the big blocks (obvious once you think about it).
Be prepared to change the power jacks - I had to change them on both my switch's power supply, and on the injector cable. This is nothing to do with the product - there are just so many variations in the sizes of power jacks.
