ETHAN'S DAUGHTER by Rachel Brimble is an action-packed tale of romance and suspense and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thrown straight into the story we meet Leah, a very dedicated and compassionate nurse whose job is her entire life. But all of that changes when she comes across Daisy, a delightful seven-year-old girl with a handsome and infuriating father, Ethan. Wanting to help this single dad who seems so isolated and alone, Leah does what she can for him and Daisy even when he makes it clear that he would rather she didn't, but Leah senses when someone is in trouble, and her gut is telling her they need her. Now all she needs is for Ethan to open up to her and who knows what could happen...
Ethan will do whatever he must to protect his daughter and keep her safe, so when his ex shows up unexpectedly one day bringing serious trouble to his door, Ethan is prepared to shut himself and his little girl away even more than he already has. His beautiful little girl has lost enough already when her mother walked out without a second glance and he will do what he must to guard her heart and his own. But he never counted on bubbly Leah and her pure kindness to wedge its way into his soul. But when danger threatens to hurt the people he cares most about, will he push Leah away to save her?
Exciting and well-paced, with some twists and turns along the way, ETHAN'S DAUGHTER by Rachel Brimble gives us the perfect example of romantic suspense. While there were some frustrating times when I wanted to bang Leah and Ethan's heads together and shout stop messing around, this all worked well to cement the struggles that these two loveable characters were going through as they tried to open themselves up in ways that they had never done before. Daisy is an absolute sweetheart and I really enjoyed another visit back to Templeton Cove - this book can be read as a standalone but trust me when I say that this is a great series! The danger element worked for me and was believable which always makes a storyline work that little bit better for me.
All in all, ETHAN'S DAUGHTER by Rachel Brimble is a great read and I highly recommend it.
*I voluntarily reviewed this book from the author
Leah Dixon, who we have met a few times in previous Templeton Cove novels as the friendly local A&E nurse, finds a little girl on the beach and when she returns her home she finds she is the daughter of the towns famous reclusive author Ethan James, but Ethan is injured and Leah, not being one to let something go gets herself entangled in his messy past and life.
This is everything we have come to expect from Rachel Brimble, and more, she has somehow managed to wind down the romance while winding up the romantic tension it’s incredible. The suspense is palpable and you never quite know where the danger is coming from or who it is targeted to. And for the first time with one of her novels I truly doubted if the couple would become a couple.
Oh and I loved the mention’s of Bristol, I always get a bit chuffed when Bristol is mentioned in a book!
A beautiful read and a fine edition to the Templeton Cove Family.
A huge thanks to Rachel Brimble for sending me the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this book.
I loved that Ethan is such a loving and protective father, Rachel Brimble has managed to create a wonderful and caring man but with a few flaws too. It's lovely to see the relationship with his daughter Daisy. Daisy is such a cutie and all the way through the story you could really feel Ethan's sense of responsibility at trying to protect her. Whether that be from actual threat and physical harm but also from letting anyone get close to his daughter after she was abandoned by her mother.
Both Leah and Ethan are strong characters and also pretty stubborn too which I guess made for lively interactions. Leah is feisty and her determination to help was so endearing even if that meant clashing with Ethan. Her occupation as a nurse definitely made her keen to step in and help. Then there is the added complication of attraction, but will anything happen?
It is a romance story at it's heart but with the added bit of danger thrown in to keep the story entertaining. The story moves pretty quickly and because of this it's so easy to become invested in the characters situation. A sweet and heartwarming read that is perfect to curl up with and relax. It's easy to get caught up in the story and forget all about your day.
Sweet but with feisty characters and a dash of danger!
With thanks to Rachel Brimble for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
