HASH(0x9b830ee8) out of 5 stars A fun and colorful new writing journal 25 July 2001
By Paula Hagar - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Spiral-bound
I bought this writing journal 3 days ago at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House, just hours before attending a one-day Natalie Goldberg writing workshop. The instant I saw this journal I knew I had to have it. It is colorful and inspirational, with many of my favorite quotes from "Writing Down the Bones" and "Wild Mind" included throughout the book, as well as some basic prompts at the top of certain pages. Every 5-6 pages there is a full color page of Natalie's brilliant paintings, which have inspired me to be more colorful in my own writing. Inside the front and back covers are lightly inscribed "Keep the pen moving" phrases. The journal, about 5x7", is the perfect size to keep inside a purse, is spiral-bound with light lines throughout, and with its inspirational writing messages scattered throughout, the journal just begs to have a fast-moving pen fill its pages. Any Natalie Goldberg fan is guaranteed to love this new journal. I do.

HASH(0x9b6781ec) out of 5 stars Misleading title 5 Jan. 2002
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Spiral-bound
Those who are familiar with Natalie Goldberg's other books will be disappointed. This is basically like any other blank journal, with colorful pages, some quotes, and the very occasional writing prompt. For the same money, you can get a simple notebook and one of Natalie's other - and considerably more substantial - works.

HASH(0x9b8a8288) out of 5 stars An Excellent Notebook 27 April 2002
By Barry K. Silverman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Spiral-bound
I found this to be an excellent notebook. Keep in mind that this is essentially a workbook, not a text on writing. If you are looking for a beautiful place to put your thoughts , this is for you. Quotes from the author are scattered thoughout the book to prompt your inner voice. I like this book so much, that I'm going to buy another copy when I fill the first one.
The lush artwork of Ms. Goldberg is itself worth the price of the book:)

HASH(0x9bbfb5e8) out of 5 stars Happy I didn't purchase it....... 26 May 2006
By N. Egwim - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Spiral-bound
I flipped through this book at the library. I saw Natalie Goldberg's name and instantly thought that I was in for a treat. WRONG!! It's a journal!! And one with an itty-bitty amount of paper to write in to boot!! Soooooo happy I didn't purchase this one. I'll save my money to be used for purchasing another book written by her.
HASH(0x9bbfb798) out of 5 stars An Unexpected Journal Which Was An Unexpected Joy 1 Feb. 2015
By Marty Stahl - Published on Amazon.com

This was what I said just after receiving it: Largely my own fault. I didn't read the description closely enough and didn't know it was primarily a journal. Also, it had been written in.

Since completing it:
I cannot fault the person who said that buying a plain notebook and one of Natalie's books would get you a more substantial combination. My thoughts were similar when I received it. However, now that I've completed using it, I feel differently. In some respects, this is like being 'in' one of Natalie's classes. There is some information, some direction, some coaching. Then writing practice. Go. Now I have absolutely no regrets about the purchase. Even the few pages written by a prior owner are OK. I could have written them. And, some of her paintings are reproduced well throughout the book. Heck! If you can't keep you pen moving any other way, describe one of the paintings in detail. Anyway,
having used the book as part of my practice, I have a greater appreciation of it. For me, its somewhat like when I went to a party years ago where the primary consumables were hot dogs & champagne. It was a surprise and somewhat disappointing, and it stayed that way right up until I partook. Then, I found I really liked it as party food. Basically, I think its something that is better appreciated through experience. So, if it intrigues you, its probably worth the investment.
