BACKGROUND Kathryn Jackson is a Christchurch based coach with over 20 years of corporate HR, L&D and coaching experience, as of 2017. Her employment in corporate UK included Andersen’s, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Scotland…where she was responsible for many fundamentals of People Management; designing, delivering and leading initiatives including performance management, succession planning and employee engagement. Kathryn’s business careerbalance Ltd has been providing Executive and Leadership Coaching, Career and Outplacement services to NZ businesses for over 10yrs. Clients in the last few years have included CERA, Ernst & Young, CDHB, Noel Leeming Group and for the last four years, SCIRT. She specialises in supporting professionals and leaders who want to build resilience, achieve career success and strive for excellence. QUALIFICATIONS & PUBLICATIONS With a commitment to quality, Kathryn has a first class honours degree specializing in HR – with a subsequent post graduate exploration of Motivation at Work. She trained with the Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring in 2005 and since moving to New Zealand has completed additional training as a Career Coach, DISC and NLP accreditation and most recently an understanding of the Psychology of Goals. In 2017, she completed a six-month European Individual Accreditation with the EMCC and was awarded Senior Practitioner. Accepted as a Fellow with the CIPD in 2015 it is her continued commitment to CPD that resulted in her decision to research and publish a book about surviving redundancy (a unique journey using a coaching style of writing). This was followed by the book you have just read; aimed at managers who are learning to coach and who want to understand how workplace conversations might sound when they use their new coaching skills. She has just completed a book about building resilience at work, scheduled for publication in 2017/18 by Routledge. OUTSIDE WORK Committed to supporting others in a variety of ways, Kathryn has taken part in numerous sporting events to raise money for charity and was actively involved in establishing (and now coaching with) the KEA coaching trust providing coaching to NGO’s in New Zealand. She enjoys life in rural North Canterbury with her family, where she relishes time spent in the saddle of her beloved horses.

This is a review for the Kindle version, which I returned after getting very frustrated that all the GROW tables that contained the questions ran of the side of the page so were unreadable. I do however like the content of the book and how easy it is to read so have purchased the paperback version.

This little book is deceptively effective. It goes straight to the heart of what most of the managers I teach want to know: how can I use coaching skills in my daily life to realise the potential of my team? I have no hesitation in recommending this book as an invaluable guide.

This book is a fantastic resource for both Operational and HR Managers or those aspiring to see their teams develop and grow be it in the workplace or otherwise. The writing style and presentation of information is clear and thoughtful and it is apparent through reading this that the author has really walked the walk. The author has appeared in international seminars and on mainstream media in New Zealand so there is a significant degree of credibility here that makes this book really stand out.
