As the description states, this is an absolutely invaluable guide for those interested in learning more about the inner workings and mechanics of British politics.

Although this is quite a wordy book, those with even the lightest of British politics knowledge should be able to take something away. Aimed at those with at least a passing of the system, its almost like an invaluable encyclopaedia for those who may already be experts.

I have to agree with other reviewers. The book is a pretty comprehensive guide to things that trainee journalists need to know but it is not user friendly. It needs to be updated and the language and many of the long winded explanations could do with revision for today's students.
It might be good if each chapter began with the nuts and bolts of a particular topic (the vital info they need in journalism and must know to pass nctj exam) and then went on to give more detailed information that some readers might want to read.
Students find their PA exam a real challenge and sadly this book doesn't offer them a lot of help.

Great book, I did however mean to order the 4th Edition which meant I didn't have this book for a very long time. However what I did use this book for was made far easier because of it so if anyone wishes to still buy this version despite newer editions being available then you will be greeted with a well written and resourceful textbook.

Extremely poor. This book is pooly structured and makes little effort to guide the reader to key ideas. It is extremely poorly written being wordy to the extent that it is difficult to read. It reads as though there has been litle effort to edit it. Reading this book left me confused and unclear about topics that I had previously felt confident about.
