I found this book seems to tell you all the right things but lacks substance.
It comes across with a lot of good ideas but very basic and not much in the way of HOW to do the things it suggests. Kind of like a healthy eating book that tells you to eat less and exercise more. But a good starting point if you really have NO idea how to be assertive.

I have read a couple of Carnagie's books and found them of great value to getting on in life and at work. Especially at work as I have to work with people from all over the world. Before reading books like this one must want to improve those skills and believe they can.

Dale Carnegie was the original self-help guru. His book How to Win Friends and Influence People is a classic. First published in 1936, it has sold 15 million copies and remains popular. Carnegie's ability to inspire people is legendary. This contemporary bestseller from the Dale Carnegie Training organization distills Carnegie's teachings about business relationships into five common-sense principles for creating positive, persuasive interactions. getAbstract recommends it to up-and-comers who want to learn how to be assertive in an effective way. You can use this book's clear "action steps" to change how you relate to others, win their cooperation and approval, and build your assertiveness and self-confidence.

It is a good and relevant book about people skills, which gives you a good skill set for developing assertiveness. I wanted to read more about assertiveness and were choosing between different books which were covering this topic I am glad I chose this one.

a bit long in the end; not as interesting as Dale Carnegie's own book; a bit too technical and not so much insight
