When Wanderlust magazine reviewed Michael Poliza's previous book, AFRICA, and said "This is the most impressive collection of wildlife photography that we have come across," I was intrigued and simply had to see the pictures they were so awed by. After all, they get to see a lot of great stuff.

Well, they had it right, but I found the price tag a little too hefty to buy a copy for each of my friends. Now this smaller book is so much more affordable, it's my birthday gift solution for everybody.

HASH(0x8d6a65c4) out of 5 stars beautiful photos 12 July 2013
By Nancy415 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
We recently traveled to Africa. One lodge had a copy of this book out for guests to peruse. I was very impressed with the photos - I photographed the cover of the book so I could remember the title & author. :-)
When we got home, I found this copy available thru amazon and ordered it. While this used copy has some wear, it doesn't affect the wonderful photos inside.
If you've been to Africa, this will be a beautiful reminder of your trip. If you haven't been, this book will make you want to go.

HASH(0x8d856388) out of 5 stars A popular pick for any general-interest collection where patrons enjoy wildlife pictures. 27 July 2007
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Michael Poliza's AFRICA was hailed as one of the best photography books on the continent when it was published in its oversized volume: THE ESSENTIAL AFRICA is a more concise, portable edition of the large coffee table original and is even more highly recommended to libraries seeking photographic representation of the continent's wildlife. The close-up animal photos lose nothing in reduction to the more standard book size and even are enhanced, fairly leaping off the page with lots of color and striking close-up effects. THE ESSENTIAL AFRICA is even more highly recommended for library holdings: easier to file, easier to hold and display, and certain to be a popular pick for any general-interest collection where patrons enjoy wildlife pictures.
