Mathew Buttons wry, accurate ,amusing and easy to read re-creation of his parents journey-including his use of a car of the correct vintage is a great read and deserves considerable success.
I have now shared it with various friends - mostly of modern vintage and my enthusiasm is shared by them also.
To suggest this is a 'great first book' doesn't do it justice...look out Mr Bryson there's a new and very enjoyable rival out there....
a genuinely worthy young writer to share 'A' quality space as 'B' for Mathew Button on the 'B' section of the bookstore usually dominated by Bryson books old and new.
Matthew Button really takes you on a journey through both 60s Europe and the Europe we are more familiar with now. The style is easy and the chapters short enough to pick up and put down as you do on holiday. His descriptions are vivid and the old photos from his mum's journal are really evocative of that era.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read and hope that the follow up takes me on another voyage of discovery.
Nice work and fab debut!
I wasn't disappointed. A very well written piece which will take you on a trip through the ages of the magical eras to the present day.
Matt does a super job of keeping the readers hooked!
I look forward to the next book!
The book had me laughing out loud to myself, and completely immersed me in the story. It really does take you along on the journey, and it's so well written I almost feel like I went along. I loved it, and I am really looking forward to the next one.
Lovely read, great seeing how the trip evolved. enjoyed it very much and Looking forward to Matts next book!
This is so well related, we adventure with him and through him, them.
Yet this is not just the story of a journey. It tells of a friendship which endures. An inherent love of travel and of familial affection.
