"Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up." - Thomas Wayne, Batman Begins
Erick Burgess has experienced many falls in his life, but each time he has gotten back up again. After a knee injury in college ended his dreams of playing football, he went on to a successful law enforcement career for the State of Louisiana. After the tragic loss of his young wife, he successfully raised his two children by himself for seven years. After a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis that led to an early retirement, he moved on to pursue his dream career of being a full-time novelist.
His writing has earned him numerous accolades, including a 2011 Bronze Medal in the Reader's Favorite Book Awards for his novel Darker Than Night. His debut novel, Under Abnormal Conditions, spent several weeks in Amazon's Top 100, and continues to sell well. Having lived his entire life in South Louisiana, each of his books give an authentic portrayal of the people and culture of the area.
Erick resides in suburban Baton Rouge with his wife, their blended family of five children, his dog, Mystery, and his mortal enemy - the Dark Lord Sauron, AKA the cat. When he's not at home watching LSU or Cowboys football, you can find him browsing at Barnes & Noble, Louisiana's Double Play, or Southeast Cards & Comics, or in the pen aisle at Office Depot. You will likely also find him debating the outcome of a deadliest warrior match between Batman and Ray Lewis.
